A LittleBigPlanet 2 would be "counterproductive" say Media Molecule

Critical Gamer Writes: Our extensive interview with Media Molecule – part one of which is to be published tomorrow (Thursday), with part two going live on Monday – covers a variety of subjects. When it came to the future of the LittleBigPlanet franchise on the PS3, they were decidedly unambiguous.

Glad to see a developer wanting to push the boundaries of gaming and not just churn out sequel after sequel *cough*Activision*cough*.

I mean, sequels aren't BAD, but new IPs are few and far between this generation, and even fewer if you weed out the crappy ones.

1.4 - There's so MUCH content...
...in LBP that a sequel just doesn't make sense. They'd be better served adding content to the current game like they are with Water. To me LBP really is a game where can add DLC in perpetuity.

The core concepts are so solid to mess with them would be kind of lame. Likewise the mod tools and games people create are awesome. You could spend a long LONG long time on user created content and NEVER touch the core game.

I agree. LittleBigPlanet is a platform. You can do so much with the tools the game offers.

1.6 - My favorite game this gen.....
I like the idea of continuing to "push the boundaries" and to move forward with DLC. Expand upon the mechanics and create tools that are already in place.Add level packs that can be used to add even more diversity in create mode.

If I had a choice of what I would want to see from Media Molecule it would be for them to continue building upon the already existing strong foundation of LBP and "eventually" come up with an all new IP full of the quirky stylish MM magic and flare.....

A LittleBigPlanet 2 would be a horrific idea and its glad that Media Molecule see that.

LBP is by its nature an endless game where new levels keep coming from the players themselves. You could say that there has been many sequels worth of games from the community levels.

Creating a sequel could make levels made on the first redundant, unable to work with the newer software, and it would be completely pointless.

The best way for this game to go forwards is to just add something new to shuffle the gameplay around when ideas start running out.

gmaes in LBP started getting samey and then the MGS pack was released, and so new ideas came around, this has kept going on and the water update will further this.

The future of this game is continuous DLC to support the community and keep things different.

The nice thing about LittleBigPlanet is that the engine it's built on is more versatile that most people realise, there was an interview a while ago and they put the game into an FPS view. Things like that could be implimented as DLC rather than a whole new game.

LBP 2? No thanks... until they fix this sh!t:

I really want a better search system
Better rating system, so the crap levels stay down
A way to fix H4H
Less **** glitches!
A way to separate the sh!t levels from the good ones. I really hate that the only way of finding good levels is lbpcentral (thank god for that site)

LBP is awesome but the online is crap... At least 70% of it... Don't think so? Check out the current cool levels.

This was always going to be a problem with user created content.

Look at PC mods, most of it's crap. LittleBigPlanet is no different.

LBP2 would be so pointless.
Media Molecule is right, HOWEVER they need some more content in their DLV, not just costumes every month. They need to supply some more story levels some free some not, and more game mechanics like water and paintinator.

I don't see why they can't do a LBP2, just make it completely backward compatible with the old levels, and I'd like to add more of a third dimension to it than it has now.

I don't see why Sony doesn't bundle this game with PS3s, they should do that or at least have it pre-installed on new systems.

I'd like to see a sequel. Incorporating all these extras into one disk for $59.99 instead of adding extra costs onto the consumer through periodic DLC. Don't get me wrong, I love LBP, but how long will people continue to buy DLC? I think a proper sequel would be a great idea down the road. Add water, more options, updated graphics, paintball guns, maybe some other features.... I know some of those ideas are already available (Metal Gear DLC with paintball gun), but why milk consumers? They probably won't be able to play water levels unless they download the content. How much will that cost? After a few years, a $59.99 game runs the consumer $95 after DLC.

Whatever happened to the 3D LPB idea that was floating around at some point? I think I remember MM talking about that idea ages ago...

20 - LBP 2 as a PS4 launch title.
that's all i gotta say on the matter.

LBP 1 has so much content from the community a sequel on the same platform would be, well, redundant.

I always thought the future in games (at least a future I would have liked) would be more games that have endless replay value because of user created content, published DLC, and a community to keep it going. Even though LBP is not my kind of game, the spirit is right there with how I thought the next gen should go. Another great game falling along these lines was Burnout Paradise, continually making new content for the fans.

I always thought what would be great in a game like GTA to have customizable missions that you could make & share as DLC, after you completed story mode & unlocked that. Have a generic toolbox...goal is to get "item A" from "character B". Enemies are placed in these locations, traps in these locations, etc. Level gets rated in difficulty depending in elements you added. Perhaps even a random mission generator that takes the basic elements (chase, escape, combat), and mashes things up to always give you another mission to undertake. Make them co-opable for online. Sweet.
