GT5 needs two things that GT5P didn't have...

Destructoid: "I've always been a fan of racing games, every since I first played Mario Kart 64. Those were the good old days, when I was younger and times were simpler. Actually even today I crank out Mario Kart DD once in a while for late night multilayer gaming. I later moved up to Need for Speed starting with Hot Pursuit. That game's offline multiplayer was a blast, especially the cop chases. Then I moved up to the world of GT and later Grid, the more realistic driving games. It took a little while getting used too but I've always chased after realism and now I love GT. Now I'll agree that GT5P is realistic as it is and I was impressed, but there is always room for improvement. Here are two realism improvements I hope for, in GT5, next spring..."

on a side note:
I think it might be to late for them to implement a sophisticated damage system. But time will tell

I read an IGN preview that said there would be a damage system where the more you damaged your car, the harder it was to drive.

1.4 - Why is damage so important now?
Grid had a very good damage system... maybe to good, cause when it came down to winning, you would have to get to the finish line with a flawless vehicle...
So if for example I crashed twice within the first lap, I pretty much didn't see the point of continuing which brought me to the point of no longer wanting to play the game after a while, lol!
yeah, the damage system pissed me off so F$#kin' much!
Thats why I'm hoping GT5 doesn't go to that extreme.
BTW, movable objects within the track, awesome!

Just look at this!!! I could care less if GT5 had damage!

No problem bro, I just got tired of everyone comparing Forza 3 to the GT5:p demo.. I mean wft?! compare F3 to a more updated GT5 at least so That it will end all debate of which is better.

All those vids and pictures are from cgi because they look too real and if it were on the 360, it'd be CGI too. And GT5's physics suck because it's like GT5p. And GT5p's physics is like GT4 all over again. I would know because I'm not a fanbot, I owned a PS2 before and played GT1, 2, 3, 4, and GT5p. The physics is exactly the same as GT1 even! That's what my goggles tell me. Oh yea! And GT5's physics gonna suck so bad because the cars can't roll over and prop themselves back up slowly like magic cars! yea! And the hill textures don't magically pop up!

Why feel the need to dis forza 3 in a pro ps3/gt5 article? Are you that insecure? How come I can own a ps3 and not be a fanboy? You should probably learn a lesson from me and chill out.

@ beardpanda:

I disagreed because about half-way through your wall of sarcasm I decided that I wasn't possibly going to agree with anything else you could say and wasn't even going to read it. But then after I clicked disagree, I saw the "sarcasm" tag at the end. So, uh, my apologies. I just assumed you really didn't have your facts straight and were spewing garbage.

Anyway, about the article, these guys claim they want a realistic damage system, in then they go on to say they want it to be impossible to total your car so that it is impossible to finish a race. What? That's a contradiction. You can either have realistic damage, or you don't have it... limiting damages so that you can't total your car is NOT realistic damage.

Trying to latch Forza onto GT to make it seem like a legit competitor. Just like it's been done with so many PS3 exclusives

Pure: Latch it onto Motorstorm
Prototype: Latch it onto Infamous
Splinter Cell: Latch it onto Uncharted
Forza: Latch it onto GT

GT is miles ahead of Forza. It's a joke to even try to compare these two games. GT surpasses Forza in lap over lap in every single department. The whole damage argument has fallen flat on it's face now that we've seen Forza's damage is totally lame and crap compared to what GT5 is presenting.

All gaming sites like this one are trying to do is force the notion that Forza and GT are similar and it's only a matter of taste when in fact Forza pales massively compared to GT. GT is a car enthusiast racing sim game while Forza is just a racing video game.

Watch, NA gaming sites will bath Forza in 9s & 9.5s and when GT launches 6months after totally decimating Forza in every single department they'll give it a .1 better rating than Forza. The gaming media have turned into ad$ whores. It's disgusting and have to be an absolute fool to use these sites for info on your gaming experiences. Sure use them for their other features like forums or vid interviews etc but to give you accurate info on games via reviews? You'd be a fool indeed.

both his points were confirmed to be in GT5

damage affects driving:
http://ps3.qj.net/Video-Cra...
"la voiture commence à tirer à droite."
"j'ai une grosse perte de puissance."
basically translates to the car starts to shoot straight, and he starts losing power.

3.1 - Exactly
How the hell can you be great with Forza's damage but turn your nose up at GT's when it's way way more advanced than Forza's. This is MS's push for Christmas. They need this one bad and are doing there PR work hard.

NA editorial gaming sites are in the bag and bought on this one.

4 - Rollovers/flips damage for all cars are confirmed for GT5 already!
Rollovers/flips are confirmed for GT5 already, there's a (new physics engine) and all cars have damage, but its just the Racing/Rally cars that boost a better damage modeling..but that will change thats why the game was delayed.

Here is a link of a ferrari/streetcar taking damage:

It's easier for developers to get the go-ahead to do full scale damage/deformation up to the car being totaled in rally cars and Nascar. I assume because we see them damaged up so badly on television that it's easier to procure the right to do damage rightfully done. Street cars on the other hand probably prove more difficult for developers to get the okay for realistic damage.

I'd also assume not many street legal car manufacturers would want a game to realistically represent how their car would damage in actual daily driving. This would explain why many games that do have damage in street cars only allow so much damage to happen - bumpers fall off, scuff marks, paint chips, car performance/handling damage that can't be seen - and not so much that it encroaches onto the driver's safety zone.

If you take that into account, it definitely explains why there aren't many racers out there that represent damage faithfully. However, you can argue that Burnout has really good damage, but again none of the cars in Burnout are real or represent a real-life counterpart. You can also say that some other games allow damage, but take into account these other games typically have customization options. I think that at the point where you customize a car with body parts, livery, or actual aftermarket parts, is the point where manufacturers believe it no longer represents their car realistically when it comes to damages or performance. Kinda like when you install an aftermarket body kit or turbo is when the car manufacturer no longer honors their warranty.

Because damage is such a big deal? Sure, you can say it helps make it a realistic racer, but I'm more worried about the driving experience being realistic rather than being able to drive backward on a track and driving into people. Come on man.
