Tecmo Aware Of Quantum/Gears of War Comparisons

Ever since Quantum was first announced, there have been the inevitable comparisons with Gears of War. Many even believed that the game was purely being made to try and draw the Gears of War market towards the PlayStation 3.

However, up until now, Tecmo have maintained that Quantum is not a Gears of War clone.

1.1 - My problem is...
...Gears by itself wasn't the best game ever. The Social aspect of COOP made it good. So why the heck is their no COOP in Quantum? This seems like the worst design choice you could make.

There is a "simulated" co-op. They've been a big hazy on the subject. I mean, the scope is there for it if they wanted to do it.

Yeah, having no co-op is definitely disappointing. Co-op should be an option for most games. Splitscreen co-op too.

It makes me so confused how in the last generations you could have 4 player co-op but this generation they struggle to have 2 player split screen.

I want all games to be like Halo 3 and Warhawk, 4 player splitscreen co-op with the ability to play against people online. That should be standard.

i think they should just change the style of the game that is the only thing that makes it look like a gears clone from what i have seen it looks more like ninja gaidan with shooting and a cover i'm sure they like the attention the game is getting from these comparisons but they are never gonna be seen as better then gears even if their game is a million times better people will call it a copy and move on

Can't wait for this game. As for the Co Op, wasn't there a patent on Gears of War style Co op?

I know I read something like that somewhere, but I don't remember the article.

Regardless, I'm still excited for this game.

10 - What actually constitutes a Gears clone?
Not like it set any molds, it just does what it does while looking gory if not good.

Quantum has a cover system. Gears wasn't the first to do that. Quantum has a girl character, if the next Gears has one, does that means Gears is copying Quantum?

I would hardly call Gears original myself. It borrows heavily from RE4(chainsaws/camera angle) and KillSwitch(it steals the entire cover system).

Quantum looks crazy, and it does seem noteworthy in its own right. They effect they use to make the castle morph are unlike anything you'd see in Gears, not to mention there is more of an emphasis on Melee, and Tecmo has stated they aren't interested in milking the gore.

Actually, why is that the Xbox set seem upset that a PS3 game is copying one of their's, yet they're pleased as punch about Metroid's influence on Shadow Complex?

11.1 - shadow complex is sweet
it is like a mix of MGS1(stealth/robots), metroid(exploration/powerups), mega man X(armor/powerups) and contra. It is pretty original and takes influence from many great 2D games. Original games like this arnt really made anymore so it is very unique today. Its not some remake and it doesn't just copy metroid.

Gears and quantum like games are a dime a dozen today. Ther are no original games like shadow complex being made today. The quality of it is great for 15$. It took me around 7 hours to finish it my first time. It seems like the best way to spend my points on XBL as I want more original 2d games. Im waiting for capcom to release a new 16 bit MMX game.

The new metroid looks sweet too. I hope to see more original oldschool games like these for DL.
