SOCOM Patch, DLC, and Giveaway

Slant 6 revealed a few days ago that patch 1.5 is coming soon for SOCOM: Confrontation. We know. The game has been out for many, many, months and it's still being patched in an attempt to make it worthy of being shipped to begin with.

But the bigger piece of SOCOM news is that the 1.6 patch will bring with it free DLC. And, TheGamerAccess.com is giving away one copy of the game.

Socom is really fun when you play it with a friends. Yes, the graphics, and menus are crap, and lots of other things.. but i just hope the patch will fix most of these issues.

Yeah, the game is great and looks pretty good on an HDTV.
I'm currently waiting for the patch to get back to it! Have been waiting for a while, the date can't come soon enough.

I like it's matchmaking much more than Killzone's and every other game out there. I totally love how they categorize rooms per language and regions, it feels so good and fun to find a game full of people of your nationality... Specially for people like me. Finding a game with only people who speak spanish in other games is like finding a soda in the desert!

I actually own two copies of the game.
A digital, and a physical copy!(won a digital copy at a PlayStation Home's scavenger hunt event)

1.3 - How the hell is the graphics crap?
Can you show me just ONE other downloadable Online shooter, on any other console, like it that's better graphically? Don't just blindly follow BS banter from rabid haters.

Hell look at all the online graphics for full disc games, they don't match, or bearly match this game graphically. Use your brain and eyes don't just follow.

SOCOM:Con has one of the best online graphics on the PS3 (outside of outright power houses like MGS4 and Killzone2) and definitly better than all other online games on any other console. If you disagree then do a LEGIT graphical comparison vid or screen shots and see for yourself. I'm sorry but Halo3 online does not look, graphically, as good as SOCOM: Con and that's a full disc game, so I don't know what you're talking about

You obviously don't play Confrontation. How does the graphics suck? This game pushes more polygons and textures than most 360 games.

2 - Whoa!
Hold it right there buddy.
The graphics are not crap. They are pretty tight actually.
Except when you wear goggles & a beanie cap.
Then it's just awful clipping.

There are some graphic problems in the field but all in all
It looks good. HD matters friend.

3 - PS3's sleeping giant..
I know a lot of people passed on the game, and for good reason. Confrontation was launched prematurely with tons of glitches and lack of features. Because of this the fanbase took hits and sales sunk. But give props to Slant Six for fighting through the hate and try to make people happy.

1.50 brings Tournament ladders, the last missing game feature
1.60 brings Free DLC

The only thing left is maps. I don't know what Slant Six means by "major content/release pack" but if I were Slant Six I'd release every Socom II map (that's not already available). That should put the pack at around 15 maps, and they should price it for $5.99 (even though it will probably be 9.99). This would easily suck people back in.

The game is fun as hell, and to be completely honest, is the only game I own that's in my Playstation 3 consistently. And I own over 60 games.

Once 1.5, 1.6 and the Map DLC is released, Confrontation will easily remain one of the best shooters on PS3. If you havent tried it yet, give it a try.

That Map pack DLC had better be good though. Almost a year later with no DLC for the game is insane and if they bring out 4 maps for 9.99 that would be some serious weak sauce on their part IMO.

I'm thinking a map pack of 7 maps for 9.99 or 4 for 5.99 would be acceptable for me but damn, I just can't believe how it's been almost a year and they still haven't implemented all the features they were supposed to implement at launch and no DLC. That's just madness and I'll really have to raise an eye brow to any Full PS3 game they devleop in the future.

On the PSP or a small DLable game, sure but a large PS3 game? I'll have to be very carefull about supporting them on day one for games like that.

I think this is reasonable. If GG can bring out 4 maps for 12bucks and those maps are intensly high end graphical pieces with high end in-game physics running, then 6/7maps for SOCOM @ 9.99, and a year late, is very reasonable.

Usually when I look at the comments for a Socom article, there's a bunch of people acting like Socom hasn't been improved at all by these patches when the reality is that the game has seen major improvement since launch. Granted, much of what has been done since launch should have been done prior to release but I blame Sony more than I blame Slant 6. I got tired of CoD 4 a long time ago and I got tired of Killzone 2 even faster, but I still play Socom because it has tactical depth that no other shooter can touch. I agree with those who say HD makes this game look better than good, plus the use of sound with the (very high quality) mics is outstanding. I'm always happy to see a new patch is on the horizon and free DLC is the right price for me. If you're a run and gunner you might not get into it but for those who want something more from a shooter besides mindless action, Socom is still the king... at least until Operation Flashpoint 2 comes out.

I think it sucks that companies feel pressured into releasing games too early. In the end it just hurts the game and the gamers. Socom and Gears2 always come to everyone's mind. I actually played socom today for the first time since...I can't remember but I had a great time. Except for spawn campers

true. Socom has a learning curve. Once you get into the game it's great.

The patch and DLC can't come soon enough. Like an early XMAS present.

A lot of new age gamers like their games really easy nowadays it seems. If a game is challenging they deem it as "unplayable" and "broken". They need a game to make them FEEL uber and companies like IW have been successful at making gamers of normal average gaming skill feel like masters.

So now, they jump on something like SOCOM and it's an entire shock to their system cause SOCOM is just simply for gamers that are hardcore or rather, gamers that played video games serious before 2005. :P lol

No aim assist and re-coil matters? "HELL NOES IZ TEH BROKEN" lol

@ chubear,

I dissagree, I used to play Socom 2, 3 and CA almost daily because lets be honest, it was the best shooter on the PS2. Something that I've really started to think is cheap about Socom are the people who hide behind corners and ambush you, whereas in an FPS game you obviously can't do that. On top of that the hit detection can be piss poor, the grenades are terribly inaccurate by getting killed when a grenade is not even close to you and having a grenade explode right on top of you and you don't die and I don't know about you, but I've been really bored of these maps for quite some time. Not to mention the usual glitching in the game with people hiding inside of wall ect.

10 - Can someone tell me if they fixed the following:
1.) Framerate lag/temp. freezing

2.) Hand over weapon graphical glitch

3.) PS3 freezing once in a while.

When all of those are fixed, I'll play again.
