"why do people blame sony for that, it's available in the SDK the DEVS have to implement it"

Because they don't make it compulsory.

Cool features - as people have said, not everyone wants JUST game updates.

1.4 - They can't make it universal

MS patented it.

I don't think they should make it compulsory.
It's up to the devs.
That's the way it SHOULD be.
Being forced into adding custom soundtracks in some games would be foolish and in some respects blatantly disregard a crusial aspect to the game.
The industry has been fighting for a very long time to prove it is a quality medium.
Many people making these games consider them an artform, they choose the audio content with very high regard and intention.
If a person desires so emphatically to listen to their own music during a game, there's a very simple solution to this.
Go to options and mute the music track.
Play music from your computer or another component of your entertainment center.

oh man that is low of microsoft. they're not even the first to do it. technically computers are consoles, and you can play music in the background with itunes, so according to that im not allowed to listen to my own music with itunes while playing a game.

3 - I appreciate Sony's efforts....
But I would rather have updates that are tailored towards the gamers. I would love to be able to send voice messages. I miss that feature terribly.

There is a long list that gamers wish to have, I suppose we will have to wait a bit longer.

Thanks Sony for the update but make the next one for the gamers. I suggest, handle the gamers first then work on the 'fun' extras.

Problem is most of the ("gamer") requests are for things available in-game, such as music or private chat etc. These apps are more difficult as they need to reduce the OS footprint first.

Well... they could at least pop in 1 "gamer" function and 1 "media-center" function each time.

Just saying.

5 - I'm the biggest SONY supporter as they come...
I have Sony... TV,Monitors, Game machines etc...

But i'm starting to get a tad frustarted with trivial updates like this. I'm waiting for "Gamer" or "Playstation" centric updates.

5-10sec Voice Messages
Cross-Game Chat
Cross-Game Invites

Thats basically the top 3 that will improve communication on the Playstation Network. Which I find vitally important.

I'm not jumping ship to the 360, but its bothering me that this is the direction they are taking. If any sony executive thinks the PS3, can replace, Windows, Linux or Mac as a computer in the home, they are sadly mistaken.

They are taken the long way around. Just like the PSP updates. So many useless updates. Where things more important could of been allocated to.

I'm just warning you Sony. Please assess your direction with the playstation. (Although I agree with alot of the choices) i think concentrating on the Games side of the Console is vitally important, even if you have a fantastic looking game coming up (killzone2), strive to excel above your competitors!!

Wow, did Sony just get a pat on the back?

And they didn't even have to exceed a target render to do it.

i'm still waiting for quicktime movie compatibility. All new movie trailers are released on Apple in 1080p quicktime format yet the PS3 can't play them. It's a pain in the ass to find .avi or .mpeg versions of the trailers.

nice features but i agree with some of the other posts...we need more features to enhance our gaming experience...i know it takes time to implement features like that but the time spent on enhancing media features can be spent on enhancing the game related features...i appreaciate everything sony puts in the firmwares...its free and its awesome but i think everyone gets it by now that the ps3 is a great multimedia device...one of the things i wish sony made mandatory along with trophy support was custom soundtracks, youtube support and screenshot support...the ps3 has all the features but yet they arent encouraging developers to use them...i understand its up to the developer but sony should've made them mandatory...having youtube support for games like resistance 2 and killzone 2 would be unbelievable...but we got that feature for a game like pixeljunk eden....pixeljunk eden.....pixeljunk eden!?

.MKV support in Divx 7 YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. I have been on sony's ass for the longest time to support mkv(h.264). Since it is in Divx 7 then that means its only a matter of time. I can watch 720p animes now
