Neocrisis: IGN changed the Fallout 3 Review *PS3*

Neocrisis: Is this becoming a trend with game review sites? In the first IGN review, they say that the PS3 version of the game has some major issues. However in the edited version of the review, they completely remove any mention of the PS3.

socomnick...inferior?
Excuse me?
I love how 360 owners get so excited over multiplatform games when most of them have been working pretty well on the PS3.

IGN is very fair and they were fair to change what was an honest mistake. The Playstation 3 delivers on all fronts and is the only true next gen experience with its stability, free online service, standard HDD, etc. the list goes on.

I smell some B.S on IGN's part especially since their site is now littered with Fallout 3 ads on the main page :\

could it be that it was requested to be removed due to potentially damaging sales on one platform for the game they ARE promoting on their main page

check for yourself:

COULD IT BE GAMESPOT ALL OVER AGAIN :S

It's quite possible the first review was done with an unfinished version of the game, then they got the finished product and it was all good. Anyway, I'm sure IGN will release a statement pretty soon.

The PS3 version of Fallout 3 is 'technically' inferior... but people try to make a much bigger deal out of it than it really is. It's like a person being a quarter of an inch taller than you and them calling you 'short'. You are shorter... but it's such a marginal difference that few are going to notice unless you're back to back. I find it a bit silly to even brag about such a thing.

Granted, that PSN bug is something that could be troublesome and needs to get worked out. And there's apparently some 'muddier' looking textures on the PS3 version... but regardless of the console (or PC) you buy it for... you're likely to get a great experience and it will essentially be the same. Unless of course a few better looking patches of dirt really turn you on. But just as with many mutliplatform games... some people try to get you thinking you're missing out on something if you don't have their preferred console. If you have an Xbox 360, get it for that. If you have a PS3, get it for that. A PC? Get it for that. Two of those or more? Well, you've got options and it's up to you what to go for.

I personally got it for my PS3 despite having a 360. I know there's some out there now, "But Tacki, WHY?! How could you opt for the INFERIOR version!" Well, I went with the one I FELT like getting. I wouldn't bother with any downloadable content and I don't care for achievements (or even trophies that much). I wanted to play it on my PS3. And being that I have more games for my PS3 I think the case fits in better with my collection when it's displayed. However, I did get Dead Space for my 360 because I wanted the Ultra Limited Edition. Y'see... that's the beauty of choice. We can all choose and nobody's 'wrong' for choosing one edition over another.

I know the fanboys will never stop... as a gamer it's sad to see the focus really being taken off the game. Instead of talking about what a great experience we're having or could have... we get this childish 'my console can beat up your console' behavior. It's almost disheartening. I thought gamers play games... not analyze pixels.

I just don't understand why some people are concerned about what others are getting from their gaming experience. I've said it many times... whether another person has it worse or better... it won't change YOUR experience in the least. If it somehow can then we should all be worried about whether or not we have the BEST tv out there and the BEST surround sound system. Why it would be so bad for some to accept that we're all going to get what is potentially a very good game is beyond my comprehension.

Yeah, right :D

"nobody with any shred of dignity would ever stand up for a corporation when they only think of you as a demographic and a dollar sign. and nobody with any intelligence would constantly seek out reasons for them not to be upset about investing money in a company or system that has time and time again let them down."

Now I'm confused. I thought you were bashing Sony :)

Clearly, he is.

I recently said IGN was my only trusted review site, but it's quickly going downhill it appears, even though Tacki is probably right and the issues were pretty small... IGN apparently believed them to be significant enough to be mentioned in the review at first, then, probably due to pressure from X person/company/whatever, they changed it, WRONG thing to do.

Oh and before you all start defending the change of the review, remember what you were all saying a week ago with Fable II's reviews, huh?

Well your point was very well researched and well written, your analogy fails to do justice of the 'technical' inferiority. Fallout 3 freezes for a second or two when anything that has to do with PSN pops up, and it also gets blurry at some points. It's not a quarter of an inch difference, it's more of a 1" or 1 1/2" difference, freezing is not a minuscule difference, neither is blurriness.

I agree with everything else in your comment though.

sumguy is absolutely correct here, you have to be trying insanely hard not to read most comments or you're a fanboy here if you don't see comments to almost fascist proportions here on N4G. It's ridiculous, the Sony side is more like East Germany and Microsoft is West Germany, there are no neutrals.

It's proven that Sony outweighs MS fans here about 3:1, no one can argue. I mean honestly, there's Mart, pp, PoG and that's about it. On the flipside though, I saw a list of fanboys on this site on some Sony Rangers guy's biography or whatever, the list was pretty big.

Also, excuses and spins are here are insane, on both sides.

The review needed to be changed because the few minor probs they mentioned shouldn't have taken ne points off the game since in the end it doesn't affect gameplay or take away from the experience you would get playing it on other systems...

Why aren't the many bugs that are in Fable 2 being written about in the reviews nor do they affect the score of the game...doesn't make sense

There is only one problem with that statement (not to get technical or be a killjoy lol) but it known that the smaller you are the more energy you need to heat your body. That is why smaller mamals like rodents are always hungry and moving around alot. They need the extra energy and movement to keep their bodies at a certain temp. Same reason why larger mamals need only a little bit a food per sitting. Their own body weight allows the body to heat itself with only a little enery output.

Sorry to get all technical and off topic but it is little things like this that bother me lol.

... because of some sort of blurryness with the screen... how many points did they take away (from both versions i assume) for the glitch that everyone is raving about? ...

That "bluryness" seams to me to be an effect when the game goes in pause mode - but returns immediately (so to fast to really go into pause). The bug, that is, is it goes in pause mode when you get a friend status update message. No game goes in pause mode when you get messages like that. That's a bug in the game, wonder why they missed that. But this has nothing to do with a general game bug or bluryness or what not. Just a wrong system event handling in the game, me thinks.

But I haven't seen any report where PS3 gamers complain that the (released) game is broken beyond believe. Can someone point me to these complaints? Its just so strange IMO that PS3 "issues" are always blown out of proportion. Hey, I even played the Orange Box and before that I though that game is unplayable. Far off. It plays just fine. And that was the worst example AFAIR.

IGN has realized the Playstation 3's version can not be the flawed version so they changed their flawed review. The Playstation 3 delivers in every aspect and there was no denying that fact.

They should rate the game out of the box because not everyone has internet.

IGN is a joke. how much you want to bet that the 95 they gave Resistance 2 will be one of the highest scores that R2 gets?
Shut this user up Let user speak
Masta_fro - 393 days 14 hours ago
5.2 - @read disc error..
i disagree... I believe resistance 2 deserves the score it got. Judging by the beta, the amount of time this game will take from you is astonishing. The game feels solid in every way and expands on every multiplayer idea ever conceived.

You think IGN is a joke because it gives ps3 an equal score? My friend, you are so misinformed.

Everybody, and i mean everyone whos been following the console wars, will tell you that ign has a history of scoring the ps3 version of games lower because of tiny differences between the ps3 and 360 version.

But when the ps3 version is clearly better..ign cleverly finds a way to spin it; For example... we all lknow this one...

"The 360 version has a different 'visual style' than the ps3 version"...IGN

or better yet

"The ps3 version has better framerates and overall looks better, but the 360 version loads faster, so its a tie" ...yea ok IGN

And my personal favorite:
"The 360 version has framerate issues which are nonexistent in the ps3 version, but it has achievements!!!...so its a tie"

And one more thing...your logic is spot on...ign shouldnt review games considering a patch will probably make it better once it comes out...and guess what? They dont...

Recently Bioshock came out and 2K released a patch wich made the game look in all aspects better than the 360 version...but ign did not change their review because it was released after the game launched...

Are those direct quotes? If so then give them hyperlnks or citations.
IGN is almost always saying the PS3 version of a multiplat is better despite a general consensus from critics that the 360 version runs and/or looks better. For example, IGN said GTA 4 ran better on the PS3 than the 360 when everyone else was saying the exact opposite and that the 360 version looked and ran better or they both were about equal:

http://www.videogamer.com/f...

http://kotaku.com/384422/wh...

http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

These are just a couple links from a quick google search. Now, they review Fallout 3 and say the 360 version runs and looks better like everyone else is saying and suddenly POOF! in a day the paragraph is deleted from their review. You don't find that suspicious? IGN is corrupt like Gamespot (who were actually caught). Even PSM3 (an official PS3 magazine) said the 360 version of Fallout 3 looks better: http://www.xbox360fanboy.co...

you know, recently, ign has been giving out decent scores for ps3 versions of games. But if i remember correctly, a year ago...this was not the case...most of those are quotes, i just cant remember which games they are from...

Im pritty sure the first is from the gta4 review and another one is from The darkness review...

But yea...it is strange that the place is littered with fallout 3 ads and then they change the review.

Dont get me wrong...I do believe game review sites like ign can be influenced by THE GREENS, but this generally happens on multiplat games, and we all know what microsoft does.

In that case they should give a lower score to all 360 games, considering their inferior to ps3 exclusives(MGS4, Killzone 2,LBP and R2 to name a few).

Whatever. Mark every XB down because my thumbs aren't offset like the XB controller, they're symetrical.

Mark every live game down, for having to pay extra for a game you already own.

Mark them down further for the cost of batteries on said controllers.

I'm playing WipeoutHD and you are playing Cod4 on PSN can you talk to me? That is one of many differences. I pay for more features. When PSN matches all the functions of Live it will stop.

Juuken: Did you not read what I posted? Are you telling me cross game chatting is working on PSN now? No, it's not. so what are you on about with "PSN is matching Live". Have you even been on Live considering you don't own a 360 because I've been on both a lot.

@6.8: Ah, I see.. it's the just you wait.. How about voicemail? You got that on PSN? How about a complete and throughout reporting system that just isn't in game and left to the devs but across the whole system? How about a system wide matchmaking system that matches players of similar skill levels? How about a Recommend a Game to a friend feature? I can go on if you like..

EDIT: Yes, disagree a way. pft big surprise.

Crab, what the hell are you on about?

PSN *HAS* been matching Live in terms of quality. This isn't 2007 anymore. Good grief, wake up and smell the coffee beans!

And instead of smacking disagree buttons, please tell me if there's something else PSN doesn't have that XBL has. As far as I can tell, PSN doesn't have in-game music yet but who cares.

It'll come eventually.
