Did Phil Harrison cause PS3 to lose L.A. Noire to Xbox 360?

Mike Ferro writes: L.A. Noire, a game being developed by Team Bondi, has received some attention recently due to a rumor that the game will no longer be a PS3 exclusive. This game has remained shrouded in mystery for a long time, with very little detail revealed about the game.

Now over four years later, there is confusion as to whether L.A. Noire, Team Bondi's first game, was ever even a PS3 exclusive. We've tried to dig deep into the nooks and crannies of the web to find out exactly what happened to this project by Team Bondi.

Microsoft is not going to allow Rockstar to release any game exclusive to the PS3. Sony might even have an agreement signed in blood for exclusivity but Microsoft will pay the contract penalty on Rockstar's behalf to have it broken and throw in some extra money to boot so there will never be an exclusive for this game or any other.

that is crazy talk- but sir i think you could be right- but once bitten twice shy- you would think Sony would go iron clad or not even bother.

As it stands now- Let MS take any game-- all real PS3 users care about is that the games are developed with the PS3 completely in mind- and then see about porting a secondary version to the 360, ala Dead Rising to the Wii. Most PS3 users are upset about non-exclusivity (rightly so) not because we are greedy but that we know initial production is curbed and not fully implemented if the devs know that it will be sold multi-platform on day 1.

FF13 will be the possible first real taste of what the real differences are between two games that are not developed with both consoles in mind. I hope.

Do you have some sort of a link for this claim or do you work for M$ because this sounds like rubbish to me. I remember when i was speaking with a guy from EBgames about M$ getting this DLC and he told me that Sony had a choice to let M$ get GTA on the same day as the PS3 or get an exclusive game with new IP and from that you can see where that went so as far i what I've read and heard from the grapevine the PS3 will be getting an exclusive title from R*. and with M$ trying to claim the DLC is coming out in Nov. and R* saying we havn t released a date yet sounds to me that M$ is pushing for something and if they deliver garbage to M$ I can see M$ demanding there money back which will not happen and R* severs ties with M$ al together.

First GTA 4 was shrouded in mystery, until it was announced as multiplat! Then Final Fantasy XIII went through something similar. And now L.A. Noire seems to be going through the same thing!

All of those titles were thought to be exclusives and released very little info until they were announced as multiplat. Could that mean that possibly any other titles with very little info, are considering going multiplat?

I know alot of games are going Multi, but is this the way for developers to let us know that it is about to?

oh dear, what's this, both consoles will be able to experience this game? well sir, that just plains sucks, to think that a company would want more money and to have more people experience there game is just ridiculous, no but seriously, this is supposedly a very expensive game so unless sony wants to shell out some major cash to cover the difference and then some than rockstar would rather go multiplatform, and to the rest of you stop being such fanboys, to say this whole game won't fit on a dvd (or two) is ridiculous look at gtaIV, that had tons of dialogue and sounds, non repetitive environments, great animations, good graphics and they fit that on one dvd, not to shank blu ray (which is unreal for home theaters) I admit that we need to upgrade the capacity of our storage discs but blu ray was just sony thinking ahead, I think we'll start seeing problems with storage now (which we are) so yah, let's hope this game can be what I want it to be.

I don't think LA Noire was ever officially announced a PS3 exclusive. Just like now it's not even officially announced it's multi.

All LA Noire has been is a bunch of rumors and a GC trailer.

had some nice hype going for it UNTIL the devs stopped showing it.

1. L.A. Noire has not been announced for the xbox360, nor has the dev ever talked about it going on the xbox360.
SO these rumors are coming out of nowhere.

2. I really don't care about L.A. Noire going to the xbox360, I don't lose anything with it, Sony knows what they are doing if this is so. If the game is good I'll buy it. It's not like the game is an xbox360 exclusive now. LOL

If the story is true then what does it matter is L.A noir is now multiplatform?

In 2008 and 2009 Sony looks like it's getting flooded with exclusive games so it's not like there is a shortage of games.When I 1st saw the trailer for the game it looked pretty dull to me as it looked like a black and white old 50's investigating movie.It did not appeal to me anyway and I don't ever remember is being a ps3 exclusive title.

I don't doubt both companies have games that aren't third party, because both Sony and Microsoft have learned not to list games for another year unless it's really ready to do so. God of War 3 was a given because everyone knows it was coming. So to go off and say Sony has 2009 when it's still 2008 is completely insane to think of such. what i do care about is the quality of the game when it does ship... let's do some maths here

R* had to fit GTA4 on DVD disk because you can't do open world on a multi-disk layout right? this was to cater for the 360 (obviously)

do you not think they would have had more freedom if they had a whole BD disk to work with, and therefore improve the quality of the game?

reports of LA Noire being PS3 exclusive were based on developers stating they need BD to make the game and fit it on a single disk, if they need to bring the game over to the 360 as well- they would have to gimp the game to fit it on a disk

The size of games will always get smaller because the cost of games keeps getting bigger, nothing was cut from gta4 because of dvd, if you think anything else you're delusional.

Also, as time changes, so does a developers ability to fit stuff into a disk, compression tools, coding an streamlining all helps. Not to mention hd use is now optional. Even bizarre said that if they wanted to they could now make a day and night cycle fit onto the original dvd9, something that wasn't possible during it's development.

Rendering resolution has NOTHING to do with disc space. If you install a game on a PC and change the resolution does the size of the instalation change as if by magic? Never saw that happen on my PCs...

well, when the dashboard update goes live sometime this fall we'll see how much space gta IV is, if it's pushing the extent of the dvd threshold then you will see, but as for the higher resolution thing, yes a higher resolution does mean more space is required, just that the ps3 maximum resolution was lower doesn't mean gtaIV on the ps3 is smaller if anything it would be larger as blu-rays stores things strangely, anyway the reason gtaIV on the ps3 had lower resolution was that rockstar didn't take the time to fully use the PS3's hardware, only japenese devs know how to use the ps3 hardware to it's full extent, no jk but seriously, and don't use MGS4 as an example (in no way dissing it) but just think of all the high quality animations and sound files they used in that game in all the cutscenes plus they probably wouldn't have used compression to be more efficient because they had all that unused space on the BD so don't underestimate the power of the dvd and don't think we're using blu ray to it's limits yet (or if we'll ever in the ps3's lifetime.)

Just to let you know, even though I agree with you, they weren't too much help. The biggest allies, which weren't really allies, to the Americans, or the Allies, was actually the Russians..
If the Americans, which Ali likes to diss, didn't get involved with the war, you can thank the Japanese for that, the British would be speaking German right now.. There is two reasons why the British didn't get defeated during the war by the Germans.
1. Because Hitler decided to attack the Russians, which forced the Germans to stop fighting the British cause they realized that the Russians were a more difficult opponent. And, besides the Germans didn't want to fight on two fronts.
2. The Japanese attack the Americans, and because of the pact the Axis had together, the Germans, and Italians, declared war on the Americans, which quickly sent troops, and such, to Britain.

If those two things didn't happen when they did, the British would have been as much help as the Polish..

The two biggest threats to Hitler and the Nazi's were the Americans and the Russians, and Hitler knew that.. in WW2 that is. But, after the Americans entered, and the Russians turned sides, the British sure did help, a lot.
