Sorry but blame the lawyers, it's a copyright issue.

They couldn't possibly police all the users using copyrighted pictures. By making users take their own pictures, they take themselves out of the equation and if copyrights are broken it will be between the end user and the copyright victim.

Edit: to the disagrees, google "youtube lawsuit". Do you really think a little 8-person development team (Media Molecule) could withstand that kind of pressure?

Main reason this sucks is because once you take a picture of the image with the pseye doesnt it loose some detail. Its not 100 percent as sharp as it once was. Oo well guess I will have to print out pics of Master chief then add that to my sackboy :(

Is it possible to allow users to us JPEG's from their HDD as stickers? Of course it's possible. Infact, I'm still holding out some hope that it will be in there, as I love this game idea, and want the best for LBP.

However, I'm skeptical about some things. First, I think the level of creativity will be limited. ESPECIALLY if we can't use our own pictures. Are you a big fan or Resistance? How many Resistance themed "stickers" do you think will be in the game? Maybe a dozen at most. How many Resistance themed levels can you really create with only 12 stickers?

IN SHORT: I have two fears:

1) The ability to create in the game will be limited, there will be a certain number of objects you can place in a variety of ways, but this idea of creating ANYTHING will turn out to be a farse. Ask yourself: If I can already create ANYTHING, what will be released in the DLC? (They have confirmed DLC.)

2) I fear the DLC will cost money (they've spoken of charging for levels already; in one form or another) and that even trivial things such as stickers will require you to open your wallet.

Again, I want LBP to be all it can be. Hopefully if it is limited someone will take the idea to PC where anonimity and true modding/creation have always thrived.

Read: "OMG, I love LBP!" for all those who would take away my bubbles for expressing a legitimate fear.

This adds more fuel to the fire that we will be able to "sell" our customized levels. You can't put a big corporate logo like nike in you custom level and make profit from it. This is one way to make sure that there aren't any lawsuits (or at least less of them)!

Nothing stops a person from taking their Eye cam and pointing it at their monitor/print out.

The whole deal is Sony making you buy an Eye cam just for the function.

I assure you, there will still be plenty of LBP levels based on Rick Astley and what not.

If copyright material ends up in your LBP design, then they know you physically scanned the images... rather than pull them from a nondescript webpage.

The only alternative to NOT using the PSEye is to limit game textures to LBP stock.

Thing is, I was hoping to be able to whip up some textures and original works and upload them in full color and resolution. Instead, I'll have to point the damn camera at my monitor (I do have a PSEYE), and end up with a low resolution washed out replication of what I've worked on. Lame!

This will not stop people from using copyrighted images, and will not stop people from using inapropriate images. (Picture of d*ck, as has been pointed out.) What it will do is allow Sony to pick up some more money. It will probably help media molecule profit too, as I'm anticipating that 3.99 "sticker pack" which will have several dozen extra stickers, but none that I actually want.

Let's be optimistic and say the game will ship with 500 different stickers you can use. How many levels will you have to play before your sick and tired of seeing those same stickers over and over again? Well, I should say those same sticker mixed in with some washed out PSEYE photos of various things.

I'm hoping they change their policy, will a game that artificially restricts itself to force the purchas of a PSEYE, will they hesitate to charge for trival DLC? This is my fear.

If a JPEG ended up in the game atleast they'd know you physically put it on a thumb drive and transfered it to your PS3. And then imported it into the game.

If copyright is the issue at hand, then they would stop both JPEG AND PSEYE images.

Who do you think the companies are going to sue for allowing their images to be copyrighted? Yep, Media Molecule. Companies are vindictive and will try everything to get money so you can't blame Media Molecule for covering their backs any way they can.

The PSEye is an option, if you don't want to get it, don't, you'll be the one missing out. Or if you're feeling rich, why not agree to pay all the copyright infringement lawsuits they have the possibility of getting in the future thus, letting everyone use jpegs.

Here's an experiment: go to an art site (Deviant art's a good choice) take a photo from there, turn it into your own company's logo and publish and see what happens :)

A similar thing happened with a fighting game engine maker M.U.G.E.N. where some developers were annoyed that people were using their developed sprites to make games. Some dev's were cool with the idea, some were not.

It's not ideal but hey, what else can you do? You never know they might be a way round it, we'll see.

I've had my PSeye since Eye of Judgement so I'm cool :)

This limit's the abilities of the hardcore designer that may want to make original creative artistic levels....I am interested in hardcore artistic aspects and attention to detail. I sure hope MM fix this...

You can take shots from you're monitor of textures etc,etc...with the PS eye, but...... What resoulution do you get? I amagibe very low?

If the game takes off to that degree, it will only be a matter of time before someone invents a usb storage device that fools the PS3 into thinking the PSEye is attached and the contents from it can be imported. Well, hopefully! :)
