EA cancels Red Alert 3 for PS3

According to our source at Gamestop, EA has removed the PlayStation 3 version of Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 from their upcoming release list.

Earlier this week, we reported that the PS3 version of the title may be in trouble, with EA's Red Alert 3 Community Manager stating, "I can't speak of the PS3 version right now."

1.1 - it's funny, that when sony is in trouble, you're the first one to point it out.

The mistake here let me guess-

1)Red alert canceled. No. It's delayed. He said this “I can't speak of the PS3 version right now." This article is misleading. Why would EA lose out on the profit?

2)delaying eight days and getaway, not cancelling - they needed those people for making other awesome ps3 games.

3)Qore being 3 dollars- it's a good thing, not bad that sony is trying to offer betas for some price, so it's not a MESS like MGO beta or other betas.

There still is Bioshock, Resistance 2, Fallout 3, Little Big Planet, Socom, Motorstorm, MGS4, in-game xmb, that we are counting on.

The games are still coming, but delayed as in coming later on, so that you're not broke.

Why is it sucha bad day ? A game we know next to nothing about , except that it was pretty got delayed , and possibly terminated . The getaway never appealed to me , but i guess it could blows for fans , wich never seemd to be huge in numbers .

I'd miss Red alert 3 , but was even surprised they considered it for ps3 .... given how easy (or rather lazy) it seems for rts dev to just port on 360 ...

EA's track record on ps3 is becoming incredibly nasty , especially for a console that gave those scammers quite a lot of money .

Sony must be hating themselves in choosing the technical specifications of the Cell to run as the CPU for the PS3. Regardless of what it can do with 1st party studios, 3rd party studios are struggling with it - not enough resources to focus on it, and they just prefer working on the 360.

Lack of marketing for MGS4, poor hardware sales for GTA4, the Year of the PlayStation 3 is seemingly dying away slowly. Sony should be concerned

Sony chose hardware that developers were not ready for, financially and also speciality. Now they're trying to rush new technology and share that publicly with other developers to try and get a handle of the hardware, but still after 18 months of the consoles release, although we saw improvements in the perception of it, we're getting games either being delayed, stopped or even cancelled - this is becoming Sony's RROD in essence this generation, the sophistication of the hardware.

Customers deserve better.

Instead politicians here are hungry to criticise any developer or publisher for these short-comings when its become obvious its a widespread common problem, shouldn't the source be considered for blame - Sony?

The installbase is atleast 12million now, no developer or publisher will ignore the PS3. But for EA to cancel an RTS for the PS3, a genre which has little or no competition for, shouldn't be suggestive of ignorance, stupidity or favouritism but a sincere inability to provide it for the platform for technical reasons.

A developer only has to struggle the first time with a new architecture, then they are golden. Also, as more development shops succeed, the ones that fail start to look incompetent and most likely have an inferior product anyway.

The answer is yes, of course because they don't have to recreate an entire game, they only need to have it work on 2 platforms. So the expense to make or port a game to the PS3 and have a multiplatform game is far less then the money they will reap in sales by going multi. That's why there aren't alot of publishers that choose to only make a game on one system unless they have some financial gain from either Sony or MS. There are some exceptions like Valve, but their reasoning is they want to stay small and are happy with PC/360 development but aren't against the publisher finding another company to port it for them.

I'm still not sure how RTS's are going to fare on the consoles. It always seems like you are fighting with the analog controls when a mouse is a much better fit. I'll know tomorrow after I try out Civ Rev demo since I haven't played an RTS on a console yet. Anyway, if I was going to get this would have been on the PC.

Honestly now, you can have Halo Wars and Command & Conquer all to yourself, I couldn't care less. RTS titles are rubbish on consoles, and if I really wanted to play them, I'll pick them up for my PC.

Nobody cared that "Tiberium Wars" didn't come to PS3.
Nobody cared that "Battle for Middle Earth" didn't come to PS3.
So why do we need "Red Alert"?

RTS titles play better on PC and cater to a niche market audience, which is probably why this title was pulled, and if this is such a huge and crushing loss, why hasn't anyone so much as mentioned the game until now?

Actually, taking the time to get things right is the nature of the PS3.

Games get cancelled all the time, for every system.
Some will never come out.
Some are just postponed.
Some will show up in other forms.
Some others will show up on a future/different platform.
Thus in the nature of the business.

i have said this before and will say this again:

who plays RTS on consoles?

360 fans are acting all smug, but deep inside they know that this is hardly a victory- no-one will buy this installment in a recognized PC franchise on a console

i won't be surprised if it gets canned on the 360 too, if not- have fun playing an RTS on a console without Kb/M support- im sure it WONT be a frustrating experience

EDIT: i have also noticed that this isn't official confirmation and the title is misleading

when Frontlines was canceled, i wasn't too happy

14.2 - this is far from a victory for the 360....

its a game that wont even break 500K...the point is if its going to the pc...you can surely bet there will be a 360 port....but since the ps3 is so hard to develop for like most people claim then add this game to the list of canceled ones..regardless of how the game is, its just another example of the ps3 development really is a pain in the ass.

PS3 has EndWar and World In Conflict in the RTS department- nothing exclusive though (apart from PixelJunk: Monsters, if you count that)

but who cares, the only console RTS people will actually be interested in playing is EndWar, because of the voice control- and especially on the PS3 because of the SixAxis stuff

and maybe Halo Wars, but only because it has the name Halo slapped onto it

Because GT5p is a demo for 40 bucks. PS3 fans get taken in the ass and still laugh. Strange.

The only game that is worth it, is MGS4. LBP and Resistance 2 are the only 2 other ones. It just isn't the year Sony promised. GT5 the real version 2009, KZ2 to 2009 etc etc.

it seems after 2006 and 2007, 2008 is for the 360 again.
