Firmware 2.17 Now Available For PS3

All has been quiet on the firmware update front as of late, and PS3 owners have been stuck on 2.10 for almost three months now since the last update happened around Christmas time. However, that all changed tonight as Sony have stealthily released firmware 2.17 upon the world.

Updates:

Sony has taken the time to comment on their US Blog to reveal the update is simply for improving the "operating stability of some online PS3 titles." So, if you've been having annoying lag or dropout problems in some games maybe you’ll have more success online now.

i'm amazed no one said anything about this one coming. i just turned my ps3 on, tried to sign in and i had the new update message in front of me. i actually turned the ps3 off and thought it's a bug of some sort. lol

It's a firmware update, it obviously changes something, something you can or can't see, it doesn't matter, if it improves the overall stability and performance of the machine, I'm all for it, it's not like it's the last update. You guys have to cool it with the in-game XMB, once it comes out I bet you'll still find something to cry about.

yeah your right we will find something to cry about about but it's us the consumer who make the playstation 3 what is right now. if we didn't complain about certain feature i'm 100% sure sony would of left things the way it is right. When we cry it's for the future of the console, and that's what will bring us great feature like in-game xmb. Once in-game XMB come out, we will find another feature that we want.

This download does NOT kic me offline if u will...i am able to still msg friends and sign onto the store and network....previously the updates would prevent u from doing anything online untill u updated. Now its somewhat optional if u will...Hmmmm

Firmware updates are not applied for dualshock 3 support. It's independent on a developer-by-developer basis.

The update would come separately as a required download when you start the game.

The only thing I noticed which is cool is now for photos you can do trimming. Instead of just zooming and trimming you can actually move around and trim what you want on a picture.
