Lair Analog Controls Confirmed For March

TheBitbag writes:

"I played Lair today and the controls wouldn't work. Why? They reconfigured it for analog use. Now you can choose which controls you like. It's too bad so many Lair owners balked at the innovation. It's still good to have a choice. The patch will be available sometime in March for download."

This is very good news. Lair is dirt cheap right now. I suggest people who did not try it because of all the bad mouthing pick it up and give it a try along with the patch. Is not a bad game but it isn't perfect either.

Agreed. I didn't buy Lair because of all those reviews saying it was crapped by controls, but now that many people sold it and patch is coming, i'll buy it cheap, and i really hope the game will be re-reviewed.

1.4 - why leave it up to those sites?
They arleady said the graphics are great, the sound is epic, and the story is good. The voice acting is a little "surferish" but nothing that should bother you if you could stomach Altair in Assasins Creed. I won't get it though. Too much money and too many good games coming. If I had to choose, I'd get Lost Planet over this.

This patch should have come out a long time ago. Really it should have been an option from the begining rather than a patch after the fact. They have managed to engender so much hatred that many people do not even care about the game at all anymore.

With PS3 sales likely to quadruple twice in it's life it is hardly a waste of time. Most people that will buy a PS3 haven't done so yet. It is a boon to such people and even current owners. I still have Lair and am looking forward with renewed interest.

i haven't played the game myself, but if someone who has can tell me if the only major problem after you got used to it was if the U-turn and some other control was messed up?

anyways, it might be worth a buy now that this patch is coming out. (lord knows there's enough used copies lying around) i haven't bought a new game since uncharted and i'm starved for one.

5.2 - There were a lot more problems than the controls
Where do I begin? The navigation bar throws you off completely sometimes pointing to something completely different than what you are supposed to be attacking.

The camera is really annoying while turning and the worst part is when you are locked onto a target you lose complete orientation of where you are going.

Lastly, the ground battles are REALLY lame. There might be a thousand soldiers on the field but not a single one of them is filled with decent AI. It's almost like landing and knocking down really weak statues.

I was scarred by Lair, but that's because I was REALLY looking forward to it (I literally bought it the hour it came out). So take my opinion loosely because I was expecting a lot more.

In my opinion, it probably is worth a buy though if the price is marked down and the option for analog controls is given. The graphics are AMAZING too. Just don't expect all of the flaws to be fixed.

call me crazy, but the motion controls are the reason i liked Lair

controlling a huge dragon with your hands was undeniably cool

but this is great news for anyone who hated them (and it seems like there were plenty)

and i agree with xaphanze- it would be great if reviewers gave the game a second chance- but they probably think it's too little too late

I didn't have any issues with the controls or the game other than the very first mission and the Mokai General. After that I was laying waste to hundreds of enemy troops, ships, and beasts of war.

The motion controls were not the problem for me.

I really liked the six axis controls.

But the game was simply poor - bad missions, lack of decent story, not enough info on screen to help you navigate, poor fighting - the whole game was a real mess of wasted potential and an excellent case study for any aspiring designers to demonstarte how not to put a game together.

Swooping around with the six axis controlling the dragon was one of the only real joys I got from playing this game....

Patch or not, this game was a big dissapoitment and I couldn't personally recommend it to anyone....sorry!

10 - atleast they will release it after all...
I didnt care about site reviews because I loved motion sensor gameplay...

but right now I care about REVIEWS , because they must review the game another time ... it will help this game to sell many copies..

its cheap and has STUNNING visuals,Great story,Epic world, outstanding music and now Analog option ...

the only problem is Frame rate problems that in my eyes its not a Big deal at all (without this problem and control one Lair would be 10 )

Epic fail, aside from the controls the game is repetitive and very linear with some flaws in the UI.

People on here are really quick to defend Lair.

Why? I have no idea.

Everytime I say something bad about it, the first response I get is "Have you even played the game?"

Yes. Yes I have. And when I'm asked that I wonder the exact same question.

I liked Lair, it wasn't the best game by far but enjoyed and beat it.

I probably would pick this up again if the game plays that much better.

Some IGN Blogger played it and seemed to have a blast. Here's the link.

when I rented Lair I didn't mind the controls, so unless they fix the targeting system and the structure of some of the missions this game is still a pass for me.

15 - When the patch comes out...
Everyone will realize how BORING the game is without the Motion control... Honestly this game was wrongly slammed ... sure the is a STEEP learning curve but it is essentially a new way of playing a game and it shouldn't have been expected to go smoothly. That being said I just went back and played some of the Hadrest 2 missions in the game with ease in under 10 minutes each... i realized how F***ing incredible the visuals were, the genious behind the Story Arc and hte wonderful Cinematics... And all the GOW style takedowns are even more fun to me....

I'll try the analog controls when it comes ( though it already sux on the psp, but it wasnt intended to make the final code) but ultimately i know i will love the original controls..

Bit late.

I think Sony has picked up on this and thought... ok there a small gap before games like GTA and MGS4 so we will update one of our games to make it good and people will rush to buy it has we will sell more consoles.

19 - LOL @ Factor 5
So let's see. For owners of lair, this is kind of nice because now they don't have to throw the controller at the wall because the motion sensing integration is FAIL, but then again, most people who own Lair have already finished it and moved on. Now, if they are hoping to stimulate sales with this patch then maybe they should consider switching to the Douchbag market. When people say "the controls don't work", they expect results very soon...ie. not in a year. Of course it's nice that they did this, however I for one will not be buying a broken game. Hopefully their next project is more playable.

20 - That guys site is crap
I tried Lair with the original controls and just didn't feel like sticking it out. I probably will play it when the patch comes out, at least to check out the story.

P.S.

bitbag is lame, he allegedly played Lair with new controls and then makes a very short paragraph about it.

More than likely he stole the news from Kotaku.

I wonder if they would consider to start releasing Lair with the analog control in the game and just make the patch for the people who bought the game earlier.

22 - i liked Lair the way it was
but i played it with my PC controller plugged into my PS3, and got a taste of analog controls. they are *SOO much better to me.

i gave the game a 7/10, but if they implement this patch, i'll add an additional 1-1.5 points to that score, and run out and rebuy the game.
it was a very enjoyable game, despite a few frustrations with the controls (it wasn't a total loss, and i still beat the game, and had a good time with it. there was only one real mission where i had any true difficulty, but after that it was a cake-walk).

the only people who really, *REALLY had an issue with Lair were the people that never even *PLAYED it, and took a few *OTHER people's opinions on as their own without even giving the game a try. hell, most of them didn't even *HAVE a Playstation 3 in the *FIRST place.

considering that Lair was released during "The Great Sony/Playstation 3 Bash of 2006-2007", i wasn't surprised at how quickly everybody hopped on the "Lair is sh*t" bandwagon, and even more disappointed at my fellow Playstation fans that fell into that trap as well, and didn't give the game a try.

it's not fantastic, it's not even AAA, but it's a solid "B" at least, and there is quite a bit of fun to be had, and the story, music, and graphics are damn near AAA quality. it was the controls that people had such a problem with, and that was blown *WAAAAAAAY out of proportion.

and it wasn't that bad even though it's not everyone's game. As for me,playing it with sensing motion was kind of fun. Anyway, it's me and I give it 6.5 out of 10

This game does suck, it is not so much the tilting of the controller to turn, but the u turn move has to be the most frustrating part of this game, I am like many people that played this game, I really wanted to enjoy it, come one who doesnt want to control a freaking dragon in all the glory of 1080p..but anyways if they fix that stupid u turn move, then it is a definite buy!

25 - Nothing wrong with the controls...
The biggest problem with Lair is that the dev does not allow you to actually play the game and explore the great environment. They keep on sitting on your shoulder chasing you around and changing the objectives. Fix that - and this game would have been a contender for GOTY.

Well then, now I have reason to get hyped about this game again. Good work Factor 5 fixing what was obviously your game's biggest downfall.
