Dota Creator Joins Valve for new Project

IceFrog the creator of the highly popular mod for Warcraft 3; Defense of the Ancients, announced today that he has been hired by Valve and is now managing a team there. He is supposedly working on something very special for the Dota Fans. No words yet on if it will be a dota remake of some sort or a complelty different project all together.

I imagine it just like dota except the World tree and the frozen throne are replaced by Apature Science Labs and Black Mesa. Also more headcrabs!

Sure, a Valve RTS sounds nice in theory, but that's unfamiliar turf to Valve. I mean, when haven't they made a First Person game?

"the original author of Defense of the Ancients was a mapmaker by the name of "Eul". However, after the Warcraft III expansion The Frozen Throne was released, Eul did not update the map. He made the DotA code open for other developers and The original Defense of the Ancients' development split away from the development of DotA Allstars. Numerous variants were created based on the original, but Allstars became the de facto standard of the map.

Based on the original map, Allstars was developed by an author under the alias Guinsoo; with the release of the 6.x version of Allstars another developer named IceFrog took up development.IceFrog is now the main programmer for the map, doing everything from implementation and balancing to debugging. With successive versions, features, heroes, items, abilities, and graphics are added or updated and bugs are fixed. For example, in version 6.48, Icefrog added a feature which automatically changes the terrain from grass to snow; each release is accompanied with a changelog.

On the DotA Allstars forum, users can post ideas for new heroes or items, some of which are added to the map Icefrog recently added a new hero based on submissions for a "model-to-hero" contest on his site."

regardless. DoTA was left in Icefrogs care and he did an outstanding job. With Valve's resources an RTS of dota nature will be epic with Icefrog at the helm

All nighters come around once every year or so for me. I can guarantee a few if valve releases an rts.

...makes you really think about the modding community. Guys like Icrfrog are common in the mod scene and yet some dude makes an untextured halo weapon and he's a genius.

4 - Not DoTA creator
As far as I can recall, icefrog did NOT create DoTA, he's just maintaining it. The responsibility was "handed down" to him when the previous modders left for other projects, and items were added in the mod named after the previous modders (Guinsoo, Eul, etc.).
