Cinema Staff Play BioShock On The Big Screen

zConnection's Connor Beaton writes: "Looks like there are certain perks to working in small cinemas; the staff of our local cinema The New Picture House in the lovely Scottish town of St. Andrews enjoyed the opportunity to play BioShock on their largest screen yesterday using the Christie CP-2000 Digital Projector.

"Unfortunately, members of the public were not invited to join in this gaming bout, but that didn't stop the participants from tweeting about it, twice. I guess every job has its perks."

720p would look like crap at that size.

Even 1080p would look like crap at that size...aren't most cinemas using 4X resolution projectors?

I dunno what res they'd be using, but it's probably hell on the video card rendering it.

1.4 - Image size
Doesn't stress a video card. 2 inches is the same as 200.
It's only resolution, shaders, poly count and the such.
Size is handled by the device creating the image.

Maybe if you used a computer to play it you could get respectable resolutions that would work well in a theater.

I know my computer could do way over 1080p, especially if the settings where scaled back a bit.

That's what I'm saying.

Unless they use a PC for this, the game will look like absolute crap.

4K resolution is 4096×3072.

ATI's HD 5870 could run at that res. 7680x1600 is roughly equivalent to 4K in number of pixels, and the HD 5870 ran DiRT 2 at that resolution smoothly.

EDIT: Actually, ATI ran Left 4 Dead at 7680x1600 at their 5870 event. They ran DiRT 2 at 7680x3200, which is close to twice the resolution of 4k!

I always wanted to play Killzone 2 on IMAX. I'd probably get so motion sick though.

Do you know how far back from the screen you'd have to sit for the game to begin to look acceptable on a screen that huge?

Maybe with 4 linked PS3 consoles running the game at 4X resolution it would look ok, lol
