Tales of Xillia 2 Detailed in Luscious New Screens From TGS

Japanese RPG fans in the United States have been left out over this current generation of consoles, but a few titles have managed to be successful with western gamers. One of the series that has made some headway in the States is Tales of Xillia.

The sequel is set to launch sometime in 2014 for the PS3, and based on the new Tokyo Game Show screenshots for it, the developers haven’t lost their touch. The visual design oozes JRPG flare with its emo inspired character design and pastel color palette.

I haven't heard the most positive impressions from importers. They say the game recycles the vast majority of its design content from Xillia 1. Envrionments, monsters, ect.

Well its set in the same universe.

Really? I saw lot's of positive review from importers in Playasia

Even my friends who already platinum it are more impressed by Xillia 2 than Xillia 1. But this is the sequel, so of course we will see the previous town / dungeons / monster with some new addition here and there.

And Namco already improved Xillia battle system in 2, add cameo battle in colloseum, and optional dialogue for the main character. So, if you like Xillia 1 than there's no reason to skip this sequel.

I heard this game is superior to XIllia 1 in many ways. Having much more content. And the gameplay is smoother. PLus you can CHAIN bosses!

The Tales Of series are some of the best RPGs I've ever played, and the characters are a big reason for that. I don't think I played a single game in the series that I didn't enjoy. Rest in peace.

We're 3 months into the year and I feel like we're taking nothing but L's.

autobotdan37d ago

Wow she was the character designer for Tales of Destiny one of my favorites of all time =(

scorpio_204937d ago

I love the Tales games. Phantasia will always be my favorite. Ironically I felt like as the series progressed the character design became too “anime cliche.”

I’ve been hooked on the series ever since playing Tales of Xillia

jznrpg1726d ago

I hope they remaster or port a lot of the older games of the series to PS4/PS5

“Tales series is considered one of the top three Japanese RPG series next to RPG giants like Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy.”

How you gonna talk about the top three JRPG franchises and not mention Pokémon, the top selling series in the genre?

This is how the top JRPG series stack up

1. Pokémon - 340M
2. Final Fantasy - 144M
3. Dragon Quest - 78M
4. Monster Hunter - 52M
5. Kingdom Hearts - 30M
6. Souls - 25M
7. Tales of - 20M

How to get into Japanese rock and pop by listening to Tales series music

Lots of great Japanese games have major Japanese rock and pop singers providing the theme songs for them. The Final Fantasy series had Gackt providing "Redemption" for Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus and Hikaru Utada always provides the theme song for each Kingdom Hearts game. But if there is one series that reliably brings out the best singers and songs, it is Bandai Namco's Tales series. It routinely brings the bangers.
