Golden Sun: An Introduction

Nintendo's E3 press conference had its ups and downs this year. But midway through, it had a big positive for a small part of the audience: Golden Sun DS. Though not as shocking an announcement as Metroid: Other M or as flashy as Mario Galaxy 2, it was easily the most important news for the DS, though that isn't saying a lot. But why did the third game in a cult GBA series last seen in 2003 garner such applause at the conference? This primer will clue you in on why Golden Sun is worthy of your attention.

Golden sun, loved that game.

Lucreto5398d ago

Mine too

I got to dig them out and play them again.

Blaze9295397d ago

Golden sun was freakin beast. Every RPG fan if not Gameboy Advance owner (and Nintendo DS owners) NEED to play Golden Sun and Golden Sun The Lost Age. Those games were to amazing of an EXPERIENCE.

Sucks that I have to buy a Nintendo DS now to play the new announced one honestly, not a DS fan but at the same time, guess I can check out that Kingdom Hearts game as well.

Black Maverick5397d ago

Still one of my favorite RPG series of all time. Both games were epic. I remember being in high school in the middle of class playing with my GBA under my desk, trying to level up Isaac and the rest of the party. Good times.

THE WORLD IS FLAT !!!

trully a nice twist ... i wanted a true world map and instead i got a world even more unique ...

using the trident in ordre to break the barrier of poseidon i think was also a very nice moment ...

and i think i spent 3 hours at least reading the minds of many in order to laugh more ...

It's Time for a New Golden Sun

Alex DS. from Link Cable Gaming writes: "The franchise celebrated its 20th anniversary yesterday without a peep from Nintendo and that’s a real shame because despite only being three games deep, this is one of the best-received RPG series out there. In short, it’s time for a new Golden Sun."

Yea good luck. Put this in the pile with f-zero, kid Icarus, wario land, etc. and label it the "wt are you waiting for" pile

PrimeVinister994d ago (Edited 994d ago )

I would love to play a new Wario Land but it will never happen 😭😭😭

Tanoriss993d ago

hah, seriously, they are sitting on a goldmine of IP's that they dont want to do anything with.

This has been overdue since the gamecube era

Golden Sun is a fantastic series. They should really continue it.
To say I miss Advanced Wars would be an understatement. Two of my top favorite series of the GBA.

Asuka1530d ago

My God I need more Advanced Wars in my life...

Knushwood Butt1530d ago

Advance Wars used to be portable gaming heaven for me. Great games.

BlackIceJoe1530d ago

I'd love to see a return of StarTropics. I don't think it will happen, but I'd welcome it.

addictedtochaos1530d ago

Agreed. They have a deep catalog of dormant IPs that they could reinvent for the Switch.

porkChop1530d ago

Where the hell is Golden Sun? It's been 10 years. All Camelot's been doing are Mario sports games.

Banjo-Kazooie isn't a Nintendo franchise anymore

Conker was never a Nintendo, especially since non of its game were even published by Nintendo

Sciurus_vulgaris1661d ago

Nintendo never owned Rare or the original IPs that the studio created during the N64-era. I can’t believe the author lists Conker and Banjo-Kazooie as Nintendo franchise, despite both series having releases and re-releases on Xbox consoles.

Neonridr1661d ago

Nintendo owned 49% of Rare at one point. Rare was a second party developer up until Nintendo sold their stake to Microsoft.

RizBiz1661d ago

I don't think the author ever said first-party titles. A game that only appears on one console can be considered a franchise of that console.

PhoenixUp1661d ago (Edited 1661d ago )

Not true

On the back of the Diddy Kong Racing box art, this was written

"Trademark of Nintendo, Diddy Kong, Banjo and Krunch characters licensed by Nintendo"

Meaning Nintendo licensed those characters to Rare. Note how Conker isn’t among the listed

wheresmymonkey1661d ago

No that means Nintendo licensed those characters, meaning they paid Rare for their use. Conker wasn't in Diddy Kong Racing and they never owned any of them.

Sciurus_vulgaris1661d ago

Nintendo licensed Duffy Kong, Banjo and Krunch from Rare.

PhoenixUp1661d ago

@ where

There’s already proof that Nintendo at a point owned the Banjo-Kazooie franchise

http://trademarks.justia.co...

Trademark History:

Nintendo of America Inc - Original Registrant
Nintendo of America Inc - Owner at Publication
Nintendo of America Inc - Original Applicant

Conker debuted in Diddy Kong Racing alongside Banjo

FallenAngel19841660d ago

@ Sci

That doesn’t make sense. If Rare owned those characters mentioned in the trademark then there’d be no need to specifically mention just those three in particular as being licensed by Nintendo

Relientk771661d ago

Still waiting for Golden Sun.

RizBiz1661d ago

I'd really love another Conker, but not as long as M$ owns the IP.

wheresmymonkey1661d ago

I think the writer might want to look up Double Dragon Neon.
