E3 2014: Can The Division Live Up To The Hype?

These past few years Ubisoft has closed their E3 show with an impressive game that generated a lot of excitement. In 2012 we saw Watch Dogs, last year it was The Division, and this year they ended with Rainbow Six: Siege. Each of these games was very impressive upon the initial reveal and looked to be doing interesting and innovative new things. However, now that Watch Dogs has come out looking much less visually impressive than originally seen and revealing itself to pretty much be nothing more than a decent urban open world game, many are questioning whether Ubisoft games can be trusted to turn out as good as they initially seem.

I think when Ubisoft proclaimed it to be "the most detailed game ever made," the game lost its chance to.

MysticStrummer3605d ago

Live up to the hype, I assume.

MWong3605d ago (Edited 3605d ago )

I don't know what the game lost. It didn't look like WatchDogs E3 2012 vs E3 2013 (uber bait and switch). Not even the game on ultra settings on a PC look as good as the E3 2012 demo. So, unless there is some huge downgrade in graphics, they take out those little details (splattering paint cans with bullets), the watch feature, the game looks amazing.

I have a feeling this is going to be a great game, hopefully it doesn't get anymore delays.

There is always a point in an upcoming game that when the hype gets to a certain stage, no matter how good the game is, some people will be disappointed simply due to the fact the hype was making the games expectations reach impossible heights, i can name many games that suffered from this. Watch dogs, assassins creed 3, titanfall, most cod games. All of them have fans and all of them had such high expectations it became impossible not to match them.

Yeah, has any game ever lived up to the insane amount of hype that was built up by developers presentations and gamers high expectations? Even when a game turns out to be very good, it still disappoints many people who were expecting something more.

Why don't you tell us gaming media?!

You're the ones constantly hyping games. Building them up and then knocking them down with constant articles.

Please find some real news to report on. Watch Dogs is the biggest selling new IP Ubisoft has ever had... So I'm guessing a large chunk of those people are enjoying the game. Certainly the abundance of Twitch streamers seem to like it.

"Why don't you tell us gaming media?!

Yeah no joke. Two different sites about Dead Island 2…

"Misses the mark"

and

"Cool and kickass".

I am confuse.

raWfodog3605d ago

We, as gamers, also need to bear some of that fault by sometimes failing to realize that these gaming previews and articles are written by people with varying degrees of gaming preferences, experiences, and aesthetics. Obviously we shouldn't automatically think a game is going to be a hit or a miss just because someone else wrote an article expressing their own opinions on it.

MysticStrummer3605d ago (Edited 3605d ago )

Very true. It bugs me to read a preview or review where the person admits they aren't a fan of whatever genre the game they're talking about is in. The gaming industry is huge, but the media devoted to covering it still seems relatively amateurish at times.

Was the game at this E3 event really running on xbox
one?? or was it PC

can we expect downgrade /s

medman3605d ago

I'm just waiting to see The Division running on a ps4 or xbone. Until that happens, I remain skeptical. But when I look at Far Cry 4 and Assassin's Creed Unity running on consoles, I have hope they can deliver.

I am in absolute agreement with the OP 👌

I hate when I see single player games and see people begging for multi-player. Jeez guys it don't need to be on every game. Latest one I seen was atomic heart.

Multiplayer or even co-op

If it was always a single player game then that's how it is

Inverno382d ago

It's a trend that never really went away. For me multiplayer in a primarily SP focused game was an excuse for DLC. Then there's the mentality gamers had that adding multiplayer makes a game worth the price, otherwise it should be half price for half a game. A way of thinking devs reassured when they started adding multiplayer to their sequels. We see the same with multiplayer focused games getting SP in their sequels.

Flawlessmic382d ago

Tbh multilayer now is a way to add live service and mtx elements, very rarely does it come of well.

What single players game used to be in a lot of cases now require 3 other people for keeping to really enjoy it and I hate having to rely on others to get the maximum from a game.

Sp should be sp, if devs want to add a separate multi mode then that's fine with me, the legends addition to ghost of tshushima was fricking sick but totally separate to the main game. Sick of co op too.

Hofstaderman382d ago

I remember when certain single player games had them as included optional modes that was played on the couch. Had brilliant times with Syphon Filter and Golden Eye. Me and my bro used to used to fight over who would play as Gabe even though it was technically just a skin. Good times.

Dagexon382d ago

I didn't notice your comment before I added mine.
But good times indeed
