Diehard GameFAN: 10 Thoughts on… the Toukiden: the Age of Demons Demo

DHGF: While Monster Hunter is probably one of the hottest things going in Japan, there’s been a general dearth of games that have attempted to put their own spin on the “hunt giant monsters” concept, both in Japan and the US, until fairly recently. While there have been games that borrowed certain elements from the Monster Hunter franchise, like Dragon’s Dogma and Gods Eater Burst, releases have been slightly sparse up until about two years ago. The Playstation Vita, oddly enough, seems to have sparked an advanced interest in the genre, as while Capcom has migrated to the 3DS for its Monster Hunter releases, other developers are attempting to make the Vita into a haven for giant monster hunting gameplay. With games like Ragnarok Odyssey and its upcoming update, Ace, God Eater 2, and Toukiden: the Age of Demons either already available or coming out soon, there’s never been a better time to invest in the Vita if you’re a fan of giant monsters and the hunting thereof.

10 PlayStation Vita Sales Success Stories

VGChartz's Adam Cartwright: "A recent piece of news doing the rounds revealed the PlayStation Vita’s top 10 selling games in the United States of America, and it makes for some grim reading. While Uncharted: Golden Abyss rightfully tops the list, it only managed to shift a little more than 400k copies in the States, which is low by the series’ standards and paints a dire picture overall given that it's above all other AAA titles on the list, including Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation, Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified, and Ki llzone Mercenary (although it’s worth noting that this top 10 doesn’t include any bundled software, otherwise  Borderlands 2 would be at the top and Call of Duty at #2)."

I would think Uncharted Abyss and Killzone Mercenaries should be included in the list.

10 Franchises That Flourished on Vita

VGChartz's Adam Cartwright: "the handheld was unable to attract certain types of software – western AAA development quickly evaporated, as did Sony’s own support, because there weren’t enough consoles out there for such titles to be profitable. But that doesn’t mean that every publisher failed to find success. Indeed, there are a number of franchises out there that have been able to appeal to the Vita’s niche and which have seen positive sales numbers and critical reception, leading to them becoming mainstays on the handheld.

It’s these series that I intend to examine in more depth this article – what they are, what entries we’ve seen, what success they’ve had, and what it’s meant for the console’s future. I’ll be using known sales figures where possible to back things up, hopefully demonstrating that the Vita has been a solid home for a number of great series despite its otherwise weak commercial performance on the market."

Toukiden 3, between the future plans of Omega Force

After the good feelings that came with the remarkable Toukiden 2, the Omega Force team in charge of this series has shown interest in working on a new chapter of the franchise, although they have recalled that at the moment they are developing a project that will be surprising, without offering more details.

After the release of MH World, Omega Force has a lot to catch up. Toukiden 2 is pretty good but I just can't help but find the game just more or less the same. The open world feature needs a few more kinks and additions instead of just "collecting items" and "killing enemies". The combat also needs to be improved upon because while it is indeed fast, it can get pretty repetitive. I also wish that the story and characters will be better, because I found the characters in TK2 to be a bit less varied compared to TK1, and even then a lot of the characters were basically stereotypes.
