In what seems like a stupid joke, Infinity Ward's alleged next DLC or microtransaction is going to be a skin – not for you but for your Guard Dog, the killstreak. At first, Call of Duty: Ghosts's Riley was butt of every joke on the internet. For better or for worse, Riley was all over social networking sites. Some for ridicule, some for praise but mostly ridicule. Well, if Riley wasn't cool enough for ya, by next week, you can pay a measly $4 to change Riley into "The Wolf"

Ever since mw3(though the franchise was fatigued well before that point) I have been saying how I will probably not buy "next year's" CoD game. I have gotten everyone so far, but Ghosts really kind of shows just how foolish I have been for hoping for more. They felt they needed to change it up, because even activision and IW know it is tired. But these changes have led to more problems and the overall CoD experience has been hurt.

Here's hoping Treyarch can capture some of the chaos of Blops2 along with some nice additions. Either way, at the very least, I will be waiting out the launch to see if the game is worth $60 and a season pass.

Also, next year will see the release of Titanfall, among other highly anticipated shooters, so maybe we will actually see the true fall of CoD.

I think Activision should let the main series rest for a while and put treyarch and IW on new, more ambitious projects. In the mean time, they could release the F2P CoD Online so the hard-core fans have something interesting and enjoyable to play. They will likely still make tons of cash on the microtransactions in that game, and maybe CoD will actually go to rest with some dignity, that is, if it has any left.

Wow, you really couldn't be more wrong. Just because something is the most popular doesn't, automatically, make it the best.

CoD is living on past glory. It still sells by the bucket load because the mainstream will continue to buy a product that they know, without researching what else is out there. It's blind loyalty.

If you haven't properly experienced the alternatives, and I'm not talking about playing five minutes of Battlefield (for example) with a pre judgment that you hate it,then how are you to know if something else is better?

I'd rather look at all of my options, try them out, and then play the game that feels best to me.

Of course, it all comes down to your own preference, but for me I'd much rather play something that pushes the boundaries. I don't really want to play something that, while it was great in 2007, has aged significantly. I also refuse to pay full price for a game that is, in essence, a glorified addon to a six year old game.

I don't think it has to do with people being ignorant, but you last statement is exactly what it is. "It's easy". Anybody can pick up and play COD, because it's basically a point and shoot. See something move shoot it, it's the ultimate example of the #brodude / #dudebro / #broman. Shoot. 60fps and fast gameplay sealed the deal.

But with the new consoles pretty much every FPS will have multiplayer that's 60fps, so that's the first nail in the coffin.

The second nail is evolution, with games offering new ways to play. BF4 64 player huge maps air, ground, and water combat (if they can get it running), TitanFall aerial maneuver and mech fights (COD 2.0), etc... All it'll take is a big boost in diversity of FPS, and COD is going to lose more and more market share.

It's not going to happen soon, because most people like easy and most people hate change, but it's going to happen eventually.

It will die as soon as a single other game comes out that does even one thing that's important for attracting the casual gamer as well as it. No fps has as smooth or intuitive of controls. No fps is as accessible our easy to get into. No fps does the constant reward and addictive progression thing near as well. No fps does the share a game with random unskilled buddies as well. And no fps nails that campy Arnold Schwarzenegger/Michael Bay image that attracts the masses like CoD. It really has no competition when it comes to attracting the masses (Battlefield might be a better game for serious shooter fans, but still doesn't do these things as well as CoD. It can't because it's a different type of game that enforces teamwork and learning the game more, making it less accessible and casual by nature.)

In other words though, it will die when Titanfall comes out.

this is how i see the next cod will be like for the single player: you reach a door that can only be unlocked if you complete the micro-transaction. The model appears in multiplayer, its a killstreak reward. People lined up to pay for weapon skins in BlOps2, why not a wolf? The weapons skins aren't far behind either, or the outfits especially now that you can "customize" your squad.

Quake wasn't even part of this last gen. I'm not sure how good Quake 4 was but I don't think it was nearly as good as the originals.

Hopefully they resurrect it but arena shooters are practically dead. Only halo remains now and that's a mix of arena and modern style gameplay, which is perfect for me.

Yeah, that's why a lot of them give up on it within a couple of sessions.

They can't understand why every bullet doesn't hit a target, no matter how far away they are.

Unfortunately CoD doesn't take gravity - and therefore bullet-drop - in to account.

A lot of my friends hated BF for this and they wouldn't listen to me / didn't want to make the effort to learn. The few that stuck with it would never go back to something so inferior.

It's not just the physics, of course.

It's the visuals, sound, destructability, 64 player online, squads, helicopters, tanks, motorcycles, quad bikes, boats, jets, the list goes on and on.

Of course BF2:Modern Combat (hmm that sounds rather similar to Modern Warfare) was doing many of these things back in 2004 on PC.

To me CoD 4 was a stripped back alternative to BF2, that I could play with my non PC gaming friends on consoles, which seemed to be incapable of matching that kind of online play and scope, even in 2007.

Don't get me wrong, that doesn't take anything away from it's achievements. I loved that game and played it to death. I simply longed for the BF2 experience to come to consoles, so that those I had rattled on about it to could understand just how incredible an experience it was.

With Bad Company 2 we came a step closer, but it wasn't a true BF experience. BF3 on 360 and PS3 was the closest thing to it. It was all there, it simply lacked the 64 player component.

Finally, with BF4, we have a contemporary replacement for BF2 on consoles, after nearly ten years and, server issues aside, I couldn't be more happy. At last!

Yea, because all of that porting is like a 2 minute job for Jeff over in accounting. And the game looks fine, ran it on my PC and it looks like a normal COD upgrade graphically.

most never engines today port over game on the fly..... like Cryengine and UnrealEngine......
real time porting to all the mayor consoles and machines.... not that impressive now IMO.
its not like its our fault they are using an old ass engine and are too cheap to make a new one or get another license for another one.

COD won't change any time soon if ever, it's a similar scenario to FIFA. From about 2001 to 2008 all Fifa did was change the rosters and add a new gimmick for every new game, then around 2008 something happened, a developer crisis of conscience perhaps, and they decided to evolve instead of iterate and they made a new engine and it's actually a pretty good game now.
COD stinks of that, people bought FIFA year after year too despite it's lack of anything new or worthwhile. It makes so much money for Activision, and now that it's a sport apparently there's even less reason to change, only if people working at IW and/ or the customers who want a good COD game speak out against the lazy yearly Call of Duty's will anything happen.

While I think this cod was rushed whereas next gen is concerned. I still enjoyed the over the top action. I hope they really polish the look and physics much more. I know the 360 and ps3 are still their bread and butter but I want to see a much bigger graphics, ai and physics separation next time around!!!

If there is nothing more than just multiplayer in Titanfall then I won't ever pay full price for a game that is only half complete!

i dont like cod anymore. its the same game over and over. no graphic improvements, people show how they re-use maps, i really want to move on. but after playing BF4 and KZSF, i admit call of duty does the menu and set-up right, i also like kill streaks. kzsf no seeing your kdr?? even after the match? i know you can see your total, but i want to know how well i did in a particular round. bf4 you cant customize your class with out loading into a game or loading test range?? wtf. rant over.

COD is arguably the most stable game to date. Most of us dont even like the game but we play it because majority of our friends do. Its something we cannot help. You can say stop buy it but when your favorite game population decreases because of the new COD then it sorta forces you into that loop again. Does anyone else have that same feeling?
