Why Ubisoft chose pirates as the theme for 'Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag'?

The time period and setting is such a crucial aspect of any Assassin's Creed game, and with Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, this setting is no different.

But why go with the pirate theme now? Why did Ubisoft decide to take the franchise in this direction when they just introduced the American Revolution a year ago? The answer is relatively simple.

In an exclusive interview with Examiner, Jean Guesdon, who is the creative director of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, revealed why the pirate setting is justified for Assassin's Creed 4.

Because they had to find a cool setting after the goddamn boring American Revolution.

(Please be warned, this message is an opinion hidden as a fact.)

I enjoyed it a great deal as many others did. I think sales of AC3 are all the facts people need. Could of been better tho but not for the reasons most think.

Still hoping for a Japanese/Chinese based one. Everything about Asia just screams assassins for god sake haha.

A samurai or ninja storyline set in Asia would be nice

I'm sure the million or so people that pirated Gears of War 3 and cost Epic $60 million+ are all laughing with you :)

You really want to get into a console vs pc discussion? I could just point out all the weak looking "next gen" games that look miles ahead on PC. Lets see AC4,Watchdogs,Titanfall,BF4,Co D, and everything else coming out. I guess they all look better on PC than your weak consoles since they'll be pirated more than bought. Crawl back into your hole troll and get a few more bubbles before you step up. Wow just looked and you have 3200 comments yet you only have 2 bubbles sounds like NOONE takes you seriously at all.

Every industry has these issues

Some companies I’ve worked for were great and some were toxic as hell (UPS when I was a teenager was extremely toxic and I have heard it still is) It all starts at the top. They either hold people accountable , set standards and treat people with respect or the crap rolls downhill.
