While speculation on the reasons behind the promotional partnership between Microsoft and Square Enix to push Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and Windows 8 is still rampant, with many believing it hides a longer-term deal like a possible Xbox 720 release, what is known is that today it generated another beautiful piece of character concept art.
Today, during a pane at PAX East, Square Enix announced the release date of the next expansion Dawntrail, on top of the editions and more.
Microsoft has announced the Microsoft Rewards app on Xbox will be discontinued in April and has confirmed that weekly streaks will also be coming to an end.
The MMORPG will arrive on Xbox consoles on 21st March following its open beta, with Square Enix releasing further details on the launch in a new Lodestone blog post.
Not only is Game Pass required to play the game in full, but FFXIV Coins will be required to make purchases - a new currency not used on PC or PlayStation.
What's even the point if they're doing everything possible to convince people NOT to play?
Bad idea. Kind of at the point its almost like a repeat of FFXI on the 360 with it requiring Gold to play.
Greed greed nothing but greed. Anyone who willingly plays 14 on Xbox is a bona fide sucker.
Square Enix is supposed to show off something next week, the same time the next Xbox is going to be reveled...megaton incoming?
Next xbox unveil next week, square showing something next week.
How much you want to bet it's this?
I think it would be a good move on MS, as well as SE, for having it on the next Xbox. Would really make me consider getting a next Xbox if that was the case. Of course, unless they announce a PS4 version for XIV, but since they've invested so much into the PS3 version... Idk...
I wish Yoshida would just scrap the PS3 version honesty, since I already just have this feeling it won't run that well performance wise (I can see the bad framerates/freezing already) and just port it to the next gen consoles, that would be better suited for the game. But of course, business wise it wouldn't be smart.
That's quite a reach, the Windows 8 logo is plastered on there so there also has to be a Microsoft credit on there too.
That's almost as big a reach as saying "Final Fantasy XIV is a videogame, Xbox 360 is a videogame console, therefore it will release on it!".
