It's a Mistake for Destiny to Not Be on PC

Yesterday, Bungie unveiled the product of a lucrative ten-year deal with Activision. But one odd nugget stuck out: no PC edition was announced. Just consoles. That's a wrongheaded move.

PC gamers always wanting our console games yet criticize us console gamers because we have "inferior" versions of games

Funny old world

Pandamobile4084d ago (Edited 4084d ago )

Forgive us PC gamers for wanting games... At this stage of the game, it's a pretty silly move for a game of this calibre and genre to not be coming to PC.

And don't act like you've never seen console gamers clamouring for a console version of a PC game.

Outside_ofthe_Box4084d ago (Edited 4084d ago )

No, don't try it make it out to be that Hellsvacancy is saying that you guys can't want games. You guys always down talk console gamers for having inferior versions of a game yet always cry for Xbox exclusives and Rockstar games to come over to the PC, it is kind of ironic you gotta admit.

Anyway I don't think it's silly at all for Bungie to not bring this on the PC. Bungie brought up a good point on how using a controller is the way to go and i agree. Mouse and keyboard wasn't meant for gaming. It was meant for typing and double clicking. Also add on to the fact that they wouldn't have to worry about piracy. I'm sure Activision is pushing for Bungie to not release destiny on the PC as well. I mean look at how much their BIGGEST game in CoD game sold on the PC at launch compared to the Vita version lol. Piracy is a HUGE problem on the PC. So it would be wise, not silly, to not bring it on the PC in my opinion.

**"And don't act like you've never seen console gamers clamouring for a console version of a PC game."**

Not as much as the reverse though and it's not like console gamers trash PC versions of games anyway.

Pandamobile4084d ago

"a controller is the way to go" What a laughable statement that is; especially for a first person shooter.

"Mouse and keyboard wasn't meant for gaming. It was meant for typing and double clicking"

Hahaha, wow...

As it turns out, it's still the best input method for the very genre of games that Destiny falls under.

Publishers can blame consumers for piracy all they want, but we all know it's more of a service issue than anything. And if the game is has a focus on multiplayer (either competitive, or merely a persistent online world), piracy becomes a moot issue because people with illegitimate copies of the game can (almost) never play online.

Outside_ofthe_Box4084d ago (Edited 4084d ago )

***"As it turns out, it's still the best input method for the very genre of games that Destiny falls under."***

Yeah... if you don't care about skill... The mouse gives you unrealistic precision. There's no aiming at all... just point and shoot.

Edit: @ below

***"So what you're telling me is that aiming in an FPS is more "realistic" with a controller because it's slower and more imprecise?"***

Exactly. We humans are not born with twitch reflexes with the keen eye of a hawk. Using a controller requires more skill to use and is more realistic.

Pandamobile4084d ago

Lol, wow. Your ignorance is unmatched my friend.

So what you're telling me is that aiming in an FPS is more "realistic" with a controller because it's slower and more imprecise?

That makes so much sense.

evilhasitsway4083d ago

that maybe true but do we get them no. so why should pc gamers get our games. i am on both but i think pc have plenty of fps and mmos systems need more mmos. the only one is dc on ps3 and a new ff that isnt out yet.

Irishguy954083d ago (Edited 4083d ago )

Auto aim is realistic Panda

Edit - "Exactly. We humans are not born with twitch reflexes with the keen eye of a hawk"

Right right. We are born slow and retarded and have no room to improve

DarkBlood4083d ago

@pandamobile your not helping the pc image laughing like that without providing a defense against @Outside_ofthe_box

classic2004083d ago

Even gabe newell stated the other day that keyboard and mouse cannot do everything right, eye tracking technology is a form of auto aim using our reflexes. Steam box is controller base with eye tracking and biometrics.

I love mouse and keyboard but it lacks many things from vibration to the feel of a gun in FPS. Also I can never play fighting or action adventure games with keyboard and mouse.

MaxXAttaxX4083d ago (Edited 4083d ago )

""don't act like you've never seen console gamers clamouring for a console version of a PC game.""

I don't think we have to. Developers like Valve are giving them to us left and right.

I agree that a mouse is better for FPS. However it is not more realistic than auto-aim or aim assist. It does not take anywhere near as much effort in real life to aim a gun at a target as it does with manual aim in games.

aliengmr4083d ago

@DarkBlood

Can't argue with beliefs.

Frankly its a coping argument. Its what makes you feel better when you know that KB&M will dust a controller competitively.

Cross-platform play would completely settle the argument right away. Full integration, and online gaming with a controller becomes much less fun. This is fact, and exactly why we don't have it.

If you get "emmersion" from a controller, fine. But to claim its outdated, that's laughable. Advantages are still advantages whether you like it or not.

Mutant-Spud4083d ago

"Frankly its a coping argument. Its what makes you feel better when you know that KB&M will dust a controller competitively"

Look, who said anything about wanting cross platform play between consoles and PC, apart from the issue of balance from day one it'd be ruined by hackers, jeez it's bad enough on consoles as it is.
By all means Bungie, make a PC version, just don't link it into the console an mobile network, let them play their little KB&M power games in their own little bubble of self importance.

BattleAxe4083d ago

In fairness Panda, I can't think of one PC exclusive game that console gamers have been clamoring for. Besides, my point of view is that the best games are on Playstation consoles, and for everything else there's Steam.

The only two things that make me want to play games on the PC are the awesome Steam deals on popular "console" games that I don't want to spend much money on, and the graphical adjustments that you get with PC versions of games.

Other than that, the gaming experience, the community experience and the quality of games on consoles like Uncharted, God or War, Killzone, Red Dead Redemption and Gran Turismo, give PC gaming and the quality of PC only games a major beat down. If it weren't for Steam, I wouldn't be gaming on my PC much if at all.

aliengmr4083d ago

@Mutant-Spud

You completely missed my point. I never said anything about hacking.

And its not "self importance" it FACT. In a competitive environment KB&M wins. If it were "antiquated" it wouldn't offer the advantage it does. So yea balance would be an issue.

I was responding to the argument that because the controller is slower and has aim assist that means the KB&M is outdated. Which is a complete fantasy.

Tr10wn4083d ago

""a controller is the way to go" What a laughable statement that is; especially for a first person shooter."

that isn't laughable, look at steam, they launched Big Picture so people can enjoy PC gaming quality with a controller in the living room or anywhere, i get your point that mouse and keyboard is way better for FPS but that's the only exception, i cant take mouse and keyboard over a controller for Skyrim or NFS or Fifa or Super Meat Boy or any other game that isnt a FPS oh and it has to be for online gameplay too i did play Farcry 3 with a controller and IMO was a better experience that way.

For the article
I really don't care i'll play the game anyways since i love Bungie, beside it was about time consoles get their own MMO, i'am a PC gamer and a console gamer and tbh PC gamers praise their peripherals and hardware i don't see what so special about keys and a pointer and how investing $800 on an upgrade is better than a next gen console that will probably cost $400 or $500 at max, my point in all this is that i don't see how is a mistake to launch Destiny as a console only title so that means that it was a mistake that Halo launches on Xbox and not on PC? at the end of the day it will probably launch for PC after 2 or 3 years like some leaked documents suggested.

Ice2ms4083d ago

As far as controller vs keyboard and mouse goes, keyboards work best for FPS, RTS, MMOs, MOABs and point and click games... other than that go with a controller.

bluetoto4083d ago

@panda

Honest question: how much skill is needed to point and click? Does the mouse not stop when you stop it? Is there a wrist skill I'm missing? Just how hard is it to move the cursor over his face and click?

I'm not trying to insult, but I keep hearing how skillful you have to be to game on pc but it only seems to be in fps's where you can point and click your way to a quick victory.

Of course M+K users will kill gamepad users when you just have to point and click and he has to adjust for so many other things and actually aim, or so it seems to me.

I find it odd that for something that takes so much skill is only shown in such a limited genre.

How does driving games handle with M+K?
Fighting?
tps's?
action?

just curious...and I'd like an actual answer from a pc'er and not some sneed remark without an actual point.

RyuCloudStrife4083d ago

Its ok Panda you'll save some money now that you won't have to upgrade yor PC for this game.

Bungie is pretty smart, the crowded PC space with MMOs is not really a good idea right now and they want to take over the consoles with a well market MMO for console gamers who love story.

Bungie is using there heads

showtimefolks4083d ago

no if its a shooter designed for consoles than its designed with controller in mind

nothing wrong with that. but to pc gamers there maybe plenty wrong with that. farcry 3 sold over 1 million so there is a market where if you make great games PC gamers will buy and support it

but i guess bungie's loss, i am a console gamer and i feel like there is nothing wrong with being a PC gamer of wanting some Console games. I know there are some PC games i want for Console so i guess it works both ways

joab7774083d ago

Its not a mistake if Microsoft is gonna use it to sell consoles. There is some type of exclusivity for the 1st iteration, whether its simply timed or like mass effect but it could make MS lots of $. It may come to pc at some point but wont launch on pc because i am akmost sure the launch will be 720 only and then move to ps4. Who knows, if defiance is successful maybe we will see cross platform play. I am so surprised MS allowed it this one time.

kevnb4083d ago (Edited 4083d ago )

ya it is kinda sad, pc gamers get all kinds of exclusive games that are like Destiny but complain anyway. No idea why pc gamers ignore awesome games like planetside 2, guild wars 2, star craft 2, arma 3, dota 2, and just tons of other games. Yes I understand the business model on pc is completely different than it used to be, but that doesnt mean gaming on pc is dead...

This is a rant article and it only answers it's own question seriously in the last few lines, with the most of it being mostly a negative review of the Destiny press event.

Honestly, the author of this article writes well but fails to enlighten us as to why, when many publishers decide their games should skip the PC platform (or at least be delayed) Destiny should be on PC, as the title implies.

There's a potentially good article in the question the title poses but it's never invested in.

If you want to rant, go to a forum or start up a blog.

SolidDuck4083d ago

I personally think mouse and keyboard controls suck. But PC gamers pick up a controller and go what the hell is this. I honestly think its whatever your used too. I'm much more accurate with a controller, but PC gamer will say the opposite. So who cares, enjoy what u like.

SolDojo4083d ago (Edited 4083d ago )

You can say there is a personal preference issue all you want.

Tell a game developer who wants a real competitive FPS environment to let the people playing with mouse and keyboard play against the people with controls, and tell them that the winners will receive large amounts of money.

They will look you in the eye, and with no dishonesty in their statement, tell you "That is not fair to the people with a controller."

Someone, refute this statement. I straight up dare you. I'm not saying that a baddie with a K+M will never lose to a pro level H4 player with a Xbox control. I AM saying, that given equal skill levels, the M+K is infinitely more accurate.

When a person selects something like say, Crysis 3 for PC over Xbox, they are gaining in their experience in almost every way, if you simply look at their options and the pros and cons of each, you are left to conclude there is no reason to purchase a console version, save for lack of a PC to play the superior version on. Choosing Xbox Crysis 3 because you only own an Xbox, and being better with that controller in the multiplayer environment doesn't make Crysis 3 for Xbox a better game from your point of view, it makes your point of view essentially irrelevant because you have no basis for real comparison.

Crysis 3 for PC is the superior version because regardless of which input method you prefer, you can use EITHER (Xbox controller for Windows is amazing), it's a personal choice. Xbox cannot offer you the ability to play with a Mouse if you wanted. It cannot offer you the high end graphics. It cannot offer you modability.

I appreciate the purpose consoles serve to gamers who are much more casual. Most of my gamer friends I've made online in WoW, the only other game they play is CoD on 360. That's fine. For me, who cares about MY OWN precision (not versus others in a MP match, but simply, when I went to shoot that guy in the face, I shot him right in the face...), I can only have respect for a mouse and keyboard, because it is the most accurate and fast.

Tell me again how slow human reactions are and why people are so slow and stupid that they can't mentally aim a gun as fast as a mouse and keyboard, because "humans dont react that fast in real life..."

That concept is actually absurd and completely disregards humans ability to think and react lightning fast to an outside stimuli. When you burn yourself, you move your hand from the heat BEFORE YOU THINK ABOUT IT. That's how fast humans react, faster than the speed of thought. Don't try to short change the ENTIRE HUMAN RACE because you're a shitty Xbox/PS fanboy, please.

bluetoto4083d ago (Edited 4083d ago )

SolDojo4083d ago

@blueto

I don't think it's a measure of skill, more so just that my thoughts translate into actions much quicker, which gives me the feeling that the game is responding back to me, and not the speed at which Developer X decided the gun is supposed to swing up and left while on Look Sensitivity Setting 7 out of 10.

Also, the only answer I have to how other genre's which don't focus on shooting (since tps vs. fps is essentially a stylistic choice for Devs), I will say that Street Fighter 4 and Darksiders 2 are FAR FAR better when played with an Xbox 360 controller for Windows, which is the main two games I could put forward to answer your questions. And in those specific situations (which is likely a console port worth playing), certainly, the game that was designed for a console controller works better with a console controller.

pandehz4083d ago (Edited 4083d ago )

@Outside_ofthe_Box

Im sorry to say this but you are a NOOB. Apologies to anyone who gets offended and I dont use that term very often but srsly your statements are utter bs

Lol that mouse and keyboard comment really made me realize how ignorant some ppl are.

I wish they would merge pc servers into console on BF3. Controller players will ragequit in seconds and call out 'hax hax hax' thats how big of a difference mouse/kb makes against controllers.

Also Bungie is stupid if they think kb/mouse is not the way to go. Anyways who is Bungie when compared to the actual fathers of fps games. Ask the actual fps makers who deal with mouse/kb and they will teach Bungie a thing or two.

If they figure out a more accurate/accessible/multitaski ng potential system of controls then I'll eat my words.

Btw anyone who wants a visual comparison just youtube mouse/kb vs controller. I dont want to post a video a seem biased.

SJPFTW4083d ago

"I wish they would merge pc servers into console on BF3. Controller players will ragequit in seconds and call out 'hax hax hax' "

well obviously it is harder to play with a controller than it is with a mouse and keyboard. Developers don't want to put games on the PC, who cares deal with it.

TechOne4083d ago

PC gamers are jelly over a console game, lol.

pandehz4083d ago

Its a game and anyone who loves games would want to experience fresh stuff.

Sadly its your use of platform choice in your words is what causes flame wars like these.

Im a gamer and I prefer a platform. If a game that looked great to me and lauded by my friends and I dont get to play that, it does make me wanting.

Dont you feel the same?

Bungie Replaces Marathon Director Amid Leadership Shakeup, Fears of Layoffs

Amid ongoing anxiety within Bungie following layoffs last year, the studio is now preparing for another shakeup, this time on Marathon.

Kaii36d ago

Layoffs should be hitting the incompetent management at this point.

Profchaos36d ago

Talk about mismanaged Bungie is a studio of tremendous potential and have made some of the greatest shooters to date. Sony pushed them to just make another Destiny style game and consult on other studios live service games and are now getting thrown under a bus as the pivot away from predominantly gaas games is unfolding.

I'd love to see a world where Bungie can focus on telling great sci fi stories again away from a live service dungeon but we all know that's a pipe dream

Rynxie36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

Are you serious? Do you just talk out of your arse naturally, or did it take years of being a POS?

Yes I see your point mate, someone clearly didn’t read the article.

Specifically the bit:

“Notably, multiple sources at the time and since have shared that Sony has largely left the studio to sort out its own troubles and was not responsible for the layoffs, with CEO Pete Parsons taking responsibility.“

He’s just spouting nonsense

Huey_My_D_Long36d ago

lol what so fucking hilarious is that you called him out so bad he projected him being offended onto you.

Its been well documented that Bungie's management has been more responsible for their shortfalls, even mentioned in said article that we are commenting on.

Its ok, just admit you didn't read the article.

MIDGETonSTILTS1736d ago

Arrowhead Studios will be Sony’s GaaS consult now.

Gameseeker_Frampt36d ago

I like how for some, it is never Bungie's fault. Microsoft, Activision, and now Sony - it is everyone else who is pushing Bungie to make all these bad decisions.

-Foxtrot35d ago

Thrown under the bus?

Are you joking? This is all Bungie, we all thought it was 100% Activision but it's clear the higher ups at Bungie don't have a clue how to run the studio and are more bothered about saving their own skin and the money that they rake in.

Sony gave them an extra $1.2 Billion to make sure that employees didn't leave and they didn't have to cut anyones jobs. Where did that money go because Bungie still cut peoples jobs and I bet you the higher management still kept a hold of their big fact paychecks and bonuses.

Sony invested poorly in this and the best thing they can do now is throw the old Bungie management out and take hold of the studio fully.

MIDGETonSTILTS1735d ago

Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. Somebody at Bungie is the golden goose making great shooting mechanics, and the rest need to justify their paychecks.

As someone who bought every story DLC for DESTINY 2 but not every season. the first thing I would do as game director is , if anybody pre-orders The ?Final Shape , they will be able to play all older DLC and seasons with purchase of FINAL SHAPE. . I think that would bring back a lot of DESTINY 2 plsyers who have not experienced the seasons a chance to play season activities before Final Shape comes out.
