Animal Crossing Apocalypse: After the End of the Wild World

Do you remember 2005's Animal Crossing: Wild World? I sure do. Despite its mild nature and repetitive content, I found myself alarmingly addicted to the game and continued playing it for an hour or two each day for months after I completed my review of the game. Eventually, I had to quit cold turkey. But lately I've found myself wondering how time had marched ahead in the nearly seven years since I last visited. Had my carefully arranged gardens been replaced with weeds? Had my animal pals moved away en masse? Had termites consumed my house or razed the biodiversity of fruit trees I had painstakingly cultivated through visiting other towns and promoting the growth of new seed types?

So far I'm liking New Horizons the least, but I've been told that it gets better. I'm only into day 2 of the game, with two villagers who I'm kind of meh about. It just doesn't have as much going on yet as previous games I've played. I like that there is supposedly a lot of freedom in how to shape and decorate the island, but very little of that is available to me right now. I did get freedom on where to live, and where my fellow villagers would live, so there's that.

I just got a pole today to vault over and explore parts of the island that weren't available to me yesterday, so maybe I jut need time with the game. I don't time travel, so I'm just going to have to do this legit and I know that Animal Crossing is not a game about instant gratification. I think it's way too early for me to judge it properly.
