Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance Review (GameXplain)

GameXplain: "When a new Kingdom Hearts game was announced for the 3DS, most fans were understandably upset. The series had found itself in a kind of limbo with most of its new games being released on portable systems and only the numbered games appearing on a proper console. But what makes it even more frustrating is each game has ended up on a completely different system with the seven games that make up the franchise appearing on five different systems. Though that’s not to say that they quality has decreased. In fact, with each new release the games have been able to iron out kinks in the gameplay and create truly fun battle systems. To this day Birth by Sleep remains my favorite Kingdom Hearts game. With the release of the Dream Drop Distance, it seems like the developers at Square-Enix are again experimenting with the capabilities of 3DS while laying the foundation for the inevitable Kingdom Hearts 3."

Agreed! This game was entertaining the whole way through. I honestly feel that it's the best out the series and was full of nonstop greatness. The pace was fast but never let up unlike its predecessors. This is one of the best titles not only on the 3DS, but in the series as well. I would've honestly preferred it on a console but was ultimately satisfied either-way. I do however suggest playing it on the 3DSXL, it felt proper on a bigger screen and was able to appreciate the 3D effect and graphics a bit more than on the regular 3DS. If your a fan, then do yourself a favor and don't miss out; this one leads up to part 3.

It was great but i had a few problems like wanting more Disney bosses and characters fighting w you (dream eaters were cool though). I also really REALLY think they missed a great opportunity to add one more world, TWEWY. The characters were awesome for a cameo but they got no resolution and just well, they were forgotten unless i missed something. I wanted to go wake up their world and send them home. Let me fight alongside them against noise and whatnot.

Still easily one of the best 3ds titles and easily one of the best, most enjoyable KH games.

Dream Drop Distance Derailed Kingdom Hearts in Style

While very flawed, DDD highlights why the series works as well as it does. Between a willingness to innovate and consistently strong character writing, Kingdom Hearts is never boring. The plot can derail itself off the tracks completely, but there’s still substance within the main cast.

Gameplay can be unrecognizable from title to title, but that’s exactly what keeps each entry worth revisiting. DDD is better than just another KH title. It has a strong identity and knows exactly what kind of game it is, for better or worse.

Dream Drop Distance didn’t have to derail Kingdom Hearts as hard as it did, but doing resulted in an unforgettable experience– a bridge to Kingdom Hearts III that’s as essential as it is eclectic.

Although not 3DS games, I would like to see the Golden Sun games and Chrono Trigger be released on the Switch.

Fist4achin1834d ago

Yes. We are long overdue for a remastered edition of both of those games.

King_Noctis1834d ago

Or give Chrono Triggers a remake. I would really love to see that.
