Kotaku - The closed beta for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale was released earlier this week. While it's in no way a complete product (it's a beta, after all) there were some things about it I loved and hated.
While Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale didn't get the best review, there are still some aspects of the game that deserve some credit.
Though PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale is a bit of a cult classic, it could have been a big hit if it launched in 2022 instead of 2012.
It wouldn't have mattered, Sony would've rushed it out and left it to die. More so now than before with their focus now being on SP narrative driven AAA games.
Oh, but somehow Smash Bros. 64 made it work?
It just couldn’t compete with Smash Bros. and it wasn’t a free-to-play game like Multiversus.
I think it released at the right time. It's just after the success of Smash and Multiversus, it's finally time for a sequel.
I'd be all in on a remake or remaster of the original. I enjoyed it because I didn't sit there and compare every aspect to SSB. I just enjoyed it as it was.
Sony should make part 2 and dump a good amount of money on it. Scrap super only kills and it's bound to succeed.
God of War: Ragnarok has plenty of fun references to PlayStation history, but now fans have discovered a conversation that calls back to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale — the crossover fighting game released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.
That’s interesting. It actually does make it canon lol. He mentioned it in a mainline game. I’d say that’s pretty cool.
Why does he keep comparing it to ssbb? He should be reviewing the game as itself, instead of a comparison.
I've got a gripe with guys criticizing this game for not having SSB features when this game isn't trying to emulate SSB
1) You have no time to look at the scores for the timed mode. It's 2 minutes. Keep a mental note as to who has the high score and go after him/her.
2) This game is about supers, deaths by falling into pits isn't a part of this mechanic and would negate the point of this game.
Criticizing the game for not being SSB is like taking an FPS and criticizing it for not being COD. You need to adapt to what the game is, and then look at the game from there. Sure, some may prefer SSB in comparison, but really are better things he could have criticized. Maybe it's because I didn't grow up on it, but it seems there are some hard habits that need to be broken when it comes to expecting this game to play exactly like Smash
I've been playing the beta. the game is fun but some level 3 are just plain awful. i would like to dodge level 3s. and im having a hard time keeping track of my self. other than that good the game is fun as hell. Stupid sly level 3 most unbalanced shit ever.
Ah, Kotaku...
I'll say it, that site has just garbage standards. They'll praise Sony when they see everyone else is, but always look for underpinnings to try and negate. When they're not trying to convince people that a cancelled game rumor is fact, they're nitpicking at things that are of no relevance. They may make good points and post interesting articles at times, but I just can't trust anything they say anymore.
Well said -Alpha. I have problems with their general journalistic integrity tbh.
