I want to make one thing clear, this is not rumour, I'm not grinding that old mill again, what I have in front of me are cold hard facts and those facts are the system requirements.
Final Fantasy 7 has come back under the spotlight thanks to the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but is it worth replaying the original?
Very much so. Graphically it's dated but the story and the gameplay haven't aged a day. It's still one of my all time favourite RPGs and for me is better than Remake in some ways.

Rise of the ronin sold twice as much as Dragons Dogma 2 this week...but no articles about that. It's only news if a PS exclusive is being outsold.
Possible reasons:
A: Not all systems can run Windows 95 games well anymore. It's due to drivers I think. For example I can't play System shock 2
B: XP, Vista and Windows 7 require more RAM than 95
C: DX9 - again, Xp, Vista and Windows 7 don't run Windows 95 as well as they used to, very likely FF7 got Up-ported to these operating systems.
Of course these are only possibilities, maybe your suspicions are correct I just doubt it. It's more likely S-E wants to make sure EVERY modern PC can run this game. By simply updating it to run on modern hardware/software drivers and what those drivers require to run smoothly. This is essentially a 'patched' version of FF7 to make it run on modern systems. They are not going to re release the PC version because it would be a pain in the balls to get running for alot of users.
So what youre trying to say is that this is a remastered version insteaad of a re-release?
Those are just the minimum system requirements for Windows OS. Nothing more. Final Fantasy 7 will look the same.
they might be testing the waters to see if they can make money off of a remastered HD version for the consoles
So pretty much any machine capable of running Windows 7 is fine.
This means nothing.
edit: Ooooo I tell you what would be good but unlikley though, support and tools for modders- let the community handle the remake- shotgun guitar parts!
