Review: Duckers – Go Duck Yourself! | Clearance Bin Review

How do you mine for gems in the earth? With a flaming blue duck. DUH! Everybody knows that! You’re so dumb….sheesh.

Duckers, developed by Retro Dreamer, is a game where you choose which direction to go pulsing downward through the soil to collect gems, coins, and other prizes, with a hint of Dig Dug added to it. The plot of the game is a bit of a stretch and feels like the developer came up with an idea of a duck jetting through the soil collecting gems and coins and then decided to crap out some sort of story to justify the idea. Its a bit lame.

Pocket Gamer: There are plenty of smartphone games you can play with one hand. In fact, there are plenty of smartphone games you can play with one finger while not really paying any attention. But striking the right balance between simplicity and engaging play is a tough one.

Duckers is a case in point. You control the action with a single finger, swiping your duck around the screen. The problem is, it never quite manages to hold your attention, and its simple controls soon become repetitive.

Duckers Review (Modojo)

Chris Buffa (Modojo): It's tough to not fall in love with Duckers. Developer Retro Dreamer put Velocispider on the shelf (we hope temporarily) in exchange for cute and cuddly critters in search of buried treasure. Not only that, but one of the stages lets them dig through endless layers of cake. Now if that doesn't satisfy your virtual sweet tooth, nothing will.
