Gear VR Release Window, Pricing Range Revealed

VRFocus - Samsung has gone into enormous detail about its Gear VR virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) for its newly-revealed Samsung Galaxy Note 4 smartphone today. The company revealed both devices at the Samsung Unpacked event in Berlin, Germany ahead of this year’s IFA show. While Samsung mentioned that Gear VR would be launching this year, it failed to mention a more specific release window or pricing range. VRFocus has heard more accurate details from the show floor.

Samsung has a history of hopping on a hype train and releasing a half assed product to get out the doors first. I wouldn't hedge my bets on this one.

It's a cool concept, using a smartphone as the VR seems like it could lead to something. I'll wait and see before I get too excited.

Lol releases a half ass product... Samsung? You do remember a month ago they was working with ORIFT. Hopping on the hype train? Like Sony. I love how people act like they're interested in Vr but only reason they are is because of Sony, when Sony are playing follow the leader just like Samsung. I even said this was gonna happen last year but people said Sony was developing Vr since the move that's why they have a prototype that works. These are multi-billion dollar technology companies how hard is it for them to get a dev kit reverse engineer and put their own spin on it. It always happen. When anything is brought to the market the competition is always right behind.

Thank you n4g for showing these fanboys the way.

I'm openly a supporter of PC gaming, and I don't even own a PS4.

The thing is a headset that you shove a tablet phone into. I think my concerns are valid.

Did you know that OR VR uses a note 3 display :P

they do seem to be a bit behind, and trying to jump start their VR campaign. Not sure how that would effect their final product.

What is clear is that everyone and their uncle will be on this VR thing in the not so distant future.

Just in case some people missed this is in cooperation with Oculus VR. Not to mention that current builds of the Oculus Rift use Samsung tech (their phone displays). At least with this your worst case scenario is that you're stuck with an awesome phone.

They don't wanna hear things like that on this site because that would mean ORift hmd isn't going to a cheap build and that's taking away ammo.

If you have the $200 budget to waste for this then get it and hope its supported. I'm excited to try but im not gonna be mad when it fails like the move and kinect and 3d twice and curved tvs and a bunch of stuff I've bought to tinker with.
