Most Anticipated Games of 2014 – Destiny

TechRaptor - Bungie is a company that does a downright excellent job at making games. From Marathon to Halo 3, we have had the ability to play games that are legends in the gaming community, and really changed the industry in many ways. With that said, ever since Bungie stepped away from Microsoft back in 2007, and then Halo after the release of Halo: Reach, gamers have been waiting for what is surely going to be the next big game. After many teases, questions, and speculation, we finally were offered some details about their all new game, Destiny. Thanks to Bungie’s track record, this brand new IP is definitely one of the most anticipated games of 2014!

I can't say anything I've seen of the game has really wowed me yet, but it's Bungie so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

djplonker3739d ago

destiny > titanfall

plus destiny is going to last 10 years according to bungie!

how many titanfalls will ea sh*t out by then?

WickedLester3739d ago (Edited 3739d ago )

Why does it have to be a competition? They are two completely different genres of game. Just allow them to coexist with one another.

My biggest concern is how Bungie plans to fund Destiny. If they try to stick on a monthly fee to play this game I'm out! I refuse to pay subscriptions for specific games when I already pay for internet and PS Plus. Forget it!

djplonker3739d ago (Edited 3739d ago )

There can only be one 2014 goty and I bet on destiny because titanfall is cod with robots even battlefield 4 looks more fun!

knowing ea they will turn it into a competition just like bf and cod!

BG115793739d ago

@djlonker, you add me, but then you said "EA" and "Battlefield 4"...

bessy673739d ago

If you think Destiny will be supported for 10 years you are sadly mistaken. There is no way Activision will let Bungie release one game and support it for that long. If by Destiny lasting 10 years they mean the Destiny universe consisting of Destiny 1-5, then sure.

re2_apocalypse3739d ago

I'm sure Bungle will release massive expansions similar to what they do with World of Warcraft over the course of the 10 years

fenome3739d ago

Bungie has a 10 year contract with EA to support this universe, I believe it also calls for three games along the way. I'm anxious to see how it plays out. My girlfriend has it preordered for me, can't wait for the beta to drop!

Mega243739d ago

I just wish for Bungie to make Destiny in the same universe as Marathon, I love Marathon and Halo Lore so much, I just don't want it to end on them. Please have a connection please!

TechRaptor3739d ago (Edited 3739d ago )

Bungie created a whole new world, with all-new lore with the creation of Destiny. There may be easter eggs with nods to previous games, but there will likely be no real connection.

Mega243739d ago

I know, but Marathon... guess you right maybe this is the new beginning of something really big.

Also, the Traveler looks like it could be the Jjaro dreadnought that Durandal came back with! We may never know.

sAVAge_bEaST3739d ago

and they are not under EA.! (at least Activison puts out finished games)

re2_apocalypse3739d ago

I would never consider Call of Duty... *cough* A Finished Game either...

djplonker3739d ago

true but they worked at launch unlike every major ea release I can remember!

Goku7813739d ago (Edited 3739d ago )

If I can play this in the same style of DC Universe, but with Halo like themes the rest of my year is already booked. I just wish Activision would make an MMO Prototype game as part 3.

Destiny Made Over $160 Million In Microtransaction Revenue In Less Than 2 Years

Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.

Sgt_Slaughter323d ago

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood323d ago (Edited 323d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro323d ago (Edited 323d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881323d ago (Edited 323d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell322d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig323d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast323d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername323d ago (Edited 323d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g323d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka323d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

There's millions that purchase MTX and there's nothing we can do about it

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai474d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface473d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog

spoonard470d ago

That's the bummer of 'games as a service'.
