“Nintendo approached us last autumn, immediately after Dreamfall Chapters was announced—they were, in fact, the first console manufacturer to do so,” says lead developer Ragnar Tørnquist.

Keep it if this is the developer that said if we can get it running on wiiu ???? is he insane has he seen shadow eternals running dx11 at max on wiiu ??? gosh Iwata meant it when he said some devs and publishers are ill informed.

Now they have it running on wiiu no problem ??

ChickeyCantor3924d ago (Edited 3924d ago )

Please refer to it as OpenGL, otherwise use it in the right context such as "similar features to dx11".

Event hough OpenGL was doing most dx11 features a few years back.

DX is a MS products. Nintendo is not using it.

light693924d ago

Wait so if OpenGl is similar or at least has similar effects as Directx 11 then now I really don't see a reason for Square Enix not porting FF13 and KH3.

ChickeyCantor3924d ago (Edited 3924d ago )

@light

Direct3D and OpenGL are just APIs. In other words they are a layer of code that provide an interface that leverage low level ( in this case machine code ) programming for the GPU ( graphics processor ).

You can't just slap OpenGL code and expect it to work for DirectX. Either there needs to be a higher level programming api that compiles to both or you need to port most functionalities from one to another.
Both have their optimization bearings.

I know dx is Microsoft's listen the xbox 360 was originally called the direct x box,did u know that ?? all i meant was the custom gpgpu in wiiu is a dx11 card end of,yes i know Nintendo or Sony don't use it,they use opengl equivalent's,clap clap,i just meant the gpgpu is dx11 level plus its easier to say ???

Opengl has had tessellation for years and years before dx11 anyway, and Sony and Nintendo will benefit from this as with opengl it's far more scalable and future proof.....

Square enix were ill informed just like Iwata said some devs/pubs have false info, wiiu is very much dx11 equivalent end of its got a custom E6760 gpgpu it was confirmed ages ago even ubisoft said the same thing saying its as powerful as a HD6770 but with edram ?? all i know is wiiu is dx11 equivalent and more when you add the sonic fast new IBM edram on board...

He added, “So far, they’ve been very helpful and supportive, and it’s been a painless and surprisingly rapid process.”

so in other words he's saying that the Wii U is more powerful than they thought? jumm, why am I not surprised.

Lovable3924d ago

From that quote, how did you arrive with that conclusion?

ChickeyCantor3924d ago (Edited 3924d ago )

No what he is saying is that communication between them and Nintendo went smooth/easy/without obstruction.

@lovable,

He probably mistook rapid process for Rapid processor.

chente00253924d ago

yeah but he said "helpful and supportive" so i'm guessing he's referring to development and understanding the hardware.then he goes to say "and it’s been a painless and surprisingly rapid process.” wich i understand he's talking about the development process.

ChickeyCantor3924d ago

That still doesn't conclude that the Wii U is more powerful than they thought. ( that's your conclusion )

They were simply saying that they were getting great support from Nintendo which eased the process.

_QQ_3924d ago

@sider what if he thought the wiiu was not as strong as the NES? then he would be right...

chente00253924d ago

@sidar well,i'm not here to try and convince you buddy.i just wrote what i picked up from the article...because unlike many others on n4g i actually read the articles before i start yapping out my mouth!

ChickeyCantor3924d ago

I read the article and your conclusion holds no merit. Reading is one thing. Comprehensive reading is another.

I'm not sure why you're taking it so offensively. I was simply pointing out the context.

It's nice to hear that Nintendo actually approached them. First, no less.

It shouldn't be an issue porting it to the Wii U, assuming they're using PC hardware as their base like most devs. Any DX11 tech and such can be scaled down for the Wii U using that framework.

falcon973924d ago

Scaled down are u ok in the head every game so far that has been ported from pc has either matched it on high settings or surpassed it,ie Deux ex wiiu version sharper than pc version the developer said so very bluntly,a custom E6760 with edram doesn't need scaling down kid.....get a life gosh.

Blacklash933924d ago (Edited 3924d ago )

Ugh, I've been dealing with these personal insults for stating my opinion like this a few times in the past week now... Why people gotta be so defensive?

WiiU is not capable of DX11 features; it's not built into the system. If DFC will use that tech on the PS4 and such, they will need to disable those graphical features and tone down some graphical aspects for the WiiU version. Same with other bits the PS4/X1 can handle that the WiiU can't.

I'm not saying the game can't look good on WiiU, just that it will inevitably have to scale down some graphical bits to work on the WiiU.

Like I said, it shouldn't be an issue. They're promising* the game for iOS, so there's no way in hell they can't manage scaling it down for a gaming console. I think this is just their way of saying they're not sure if it's worth bringing it to the Wii U at the moment.

ZeekQuattro3924d ago

The is the same indie dev that said the PS4 was inviting and the Wii U was underpowered. Now after actually working with the Wii U hardware as opposed to going by what he heard on the grapevine about the Wii U he's sold. Imagine that.

Summons753924d ago

Good boys and girls. Lost journey was such a underappreciated gem last game. I will gladly buy this game if it releases on the wii u.

Dreamfall Chapters Book Three Releases on Steam

Serena Nelson writes: "As a refresher, Dreamfall Chapters follows the exploits of Zoe Castillo and Kian Alvane as they unravel the mysteries and conspiracies in Stark and Arcadia respectively. The third book, Realms, takes off right where the second left off. So, if you need a refresher course, you can always play through the previous chapters. Although, it would most likely have a recap like the second did."

Going Episodic: The Rise of Piecemeal Games

Serena Nelson writes: "Love it or hate it, episodic games are here to stay. Especially with regards to crowdfunding games. We've seen a fair number recently have to split their game into two or more parts for one reason or another and there's been a decent amount of backlash against cutting a game up into bite-sized chunks. With the recent announcement of Celestial Tear: Demon's Revenge getting an episodic release I thought now would be a good time to go over the pros and cons for doing this."
