Defense Grid: The Awakening is Xbox Live's First "Game with Gold"

Just announced by Major Nelson, and available tomorrow through July 15th, Defense Grid: The Awakening is the first game available as part of the new “Games with Gold” promotion. This comes as a surprise to fans who were expecting Halo 3 and Assassin’s Creed 2 to be released first.

Way to compete with PS+ Microsoft...

It appears that the Halo 3 and AC2 announcements were meant to emphasize that H3 and AC2 are going to be two of the "highlights" of the freebie service, meaning that gamers are gonna get mostly junk.

On the other hand, on PS+ within the last month I downloaded Sleeping Dogs, U: Golden Abyss, DE: Human Revolution, XCOM, and LBP Karting (and I missed several other games).

I downloaded Demon's Souls, Uncharted 3, XCOM, KoA: Reckoning and ICO and Shadow of the Colossus HD collection and that was just the last month :D I love PS+ and Gold lacks so much compared to it

It's like they are now deliberately trying to get bad press. If this is how MS are going compete with the value of PS+ i'd rather they didnt bother. They got ridiculed initially because the games they annouced where so old (H3 & AC2) but then, somehow they've managed to make it worse. Still, at least we got fable 3, which i have a feeling may turn out to be the highlight of this whole thing.

I played Fable 3 for about 15 minutes before I could stand no more, horrible horrible game...
Halo3 is awesome but a generation old now...
Assassins creed, well I just couldn't get into the first one and probably wont like this one either.
I never really like these type of games but had a quick blast on defence grid earlier and it is actually pretty addictive, I certainly would have never given it a 2nd thought unless it was a freebie...
Obviously all just a matter of opinion...

Yea I thought Fable III was the best out of the fable games, but I'm not a gold member and it's not like it or anything else on offer so far is going to change that especially since MS seems intent on screwing up even the GOOD things they've been trying to do.

It's strange though, I can no longer find it on the xbox website, and it would not let me download it free when it was there (I downloaded a trial instead) also cant access it for free through the dashboard, just says 800 Microsoft points...
I did get Fable 3 no probs,but realized after playing it for 15 minutes it wasn't worth the hard drive space-utter cack!
