If you have to translate the page of a rumor then the rumor is fake.

Note that next-game.pl is in Polish (that's why we used Google translate), and Ben Cousins is rather reliable source...so, this could mean that something is going on

'Mobile can rescue Nintendo consoles'

Smartphone experts say that Nintendo’s move into the mobile market will boost Wii U and 3DS sales, not harm them.

Nintendo announced this week that it will release the likes of Mario on smartphones via a partnership with mobile games giant DeNA. DeNA will create a platform that connects Nintendo’s mobile games with Wii U, 3DS and the to-be-unveiled new console: NX.

Developer Ben Cousins, who used to work for DeNA, says that this platform can help Nintendo win back its fans that have defected to mobile.

The advertising potential is definitely there. This new network they are working on with NeDa could also be a huge step up from what they have now or at least lay some foundations for an acceptable online interface on the NX.

I like the enthusiasm, but I wonder how long it's going to take many of these analysts to do a heel-face-turn, and start writing up doom&gloom articles, when they realize that Nintendo has no intention of ever putting main-stream Mario or Pokemon games on phones for them to use micro-transactions on...

Well, not yet at least.

I imagine they'll start with simple runners and puzzle games. Like that Pokemon-themed Candy Crush they just put out on 3DS.

Canary3315d ago

...Except that Nintendo has explicitly stated that that's exactly what they intend to do.

The idea is to use mobile games to advertise their console games.

"The idea is to use mobile games to advertise their console games"

If so no one will buy 3ds wii u if they can play there games on smartphones I know I wouldn't if I knew 2 weeks ago they have another console "possibly handheld" I wouldn't buy new 3ds monster hunter edition cuz if they are switching to mobile devices the support will drop heavily and the support is already bad only one good game is coming xenoblade..
