Castlevania Mirror of Fate Demo Impressions

MasonicGamer.com: Castlevania Mirror of Fate is almost upon us so I decided to try out the new demo and give you my impressions.

My history with the Castlevania games has always been strictly 2D after the N64 Castlevania game basically ruined my life with how awful it was, I’ve yet to decide if skeletons on motorbikes are bad or kind of awesome.

not as great as i thought it would sound.. i hope it turns out good in the end but from what ive read, it might be a 7ish out of 10.. I wish it were metroidvania style still in sprites..

I hope it's a 7ish out of ten, that's a good score!

DivineAssault 4078d ago

It's good but it'd be GREAT if higher.. Ill still buy it if it were, but no lower than a 7 on average from critics brand new.. Used if its lower...

It was decent. I'm looking forward to Luigi's Mansion more than any thing else on 3DS this year.

Luigi's Mansion from the LOOKS of it so far is by far and away the best game for the 3DS this year and is the first killer app that is tempting me since Ocarina of time reboot to take the plunge. No question it has the potential to be a really great game regardless of platform.

3 Reasons You Should Give Castlevania: Mirror of Fate a Chance

Eldar Basic, GIZORAMA - "Sometimes, certain games come around and end up being disliked by everyone. Games like Remember Me come to mind as prime examples of titles that hit that awkward zone of “Eh, it’s not terrible, but I’ll give it a pass” that we see from time to time on gaming news sites. But, every now and again, a game comes along that the review community at large dislikes, and we ask, “Why?” Is it because certain reviewers have a biased view of the product during the review process, or are certain things at play that we don’t see? I’m not assuming Sega paid sites like IGN to blast Nintendo games into the sun, but perhaps, some games deserve a play regardless of review scores. Castlevania: Mirror of Fate is a great example of a game you shouldn’t sleep on just because it received very average scores on Metacritic. Here are my reasons why."

The Pixelitis Podcast Ep. 68 – Sooper Blah

"Well. That was…something. Seems Pixelitis Podcast host Patrick Kulikowski’s annual tradition of using Tecmo Bowl to predict the Super Bowl winner failed him spectacularly this time.

In this week’s episode, hosts Andrew Martins, Karen Rivera and Kulikowski make their way through a fun, if tangent-filled, show.

Though it’s complete with discussion on some of the past week’s headlines, be sure to listen in for why a certain wood is used in both Shinto Shrines and high-end Japanese bathrooms. There’s still a chance to win free music, courtesy of Square Enix VGM folk cover band The World is Square.

As always, feel free to hit play below. Don’t forget to subscribe to us on iTunes and Stitcher Radio." - Pixelitis Staff

History Lesson: Castlevania

When Bram Stoker sat down in 1897 to write Dracula, did he know he was penning the first ever video game design document?

I prefer the Metroidvania style Castlevania games compared to the new Lords of Shadow series. While they do maintain the themes of the series, and the first features the voice acting of the great Patrick Stewart, Lords of Shadow felt more like a hack and slash game akin to God of War than a Castlevania game.

Even though Lament of Innocence went the 3D route too and had elements of hack and slash, it still maintained the exploration, Metroidvania feel that I like. I suppose Lords of Shadow was the 3D version of the more linear style games in the series, but I would be interested to see how MercurySteam could make a more Metroidvania style Lords of Shadow game. I know Lords of Shadow 2 is supposed to be open world, but will it mimic the open yet closed feel of Dracula's castle, or be more like GTA?

If Lords of Shadow 2 is as good or better than Curse of Darkness(my personal favorite 3D Castlevania game), then I'll be quite pleased.

I'm guessing the two areas will be more like Darksiders. The open world won't open up before a certain point in the game, but then you can come and go as you please.
