My Wii U Gamepad Battery Tests

rustyshell.com: Although the general consensus among Wii U owners is that it’s not really a big deal to plug the Gamepad into the AC adapter and play if needed, I’ve seen a fair few conflicting stories about how long the battery lasts so I decided to conduct my own tests.

Wow the average battery life for his gamepad is 2hrs, 24 minutes thats horrible Nintendo!

I don't find this to be a problem. You do realize this is with full use constantly. I have no problem at all with mine. There is also an battery boost on the way. Heck the 3Ds battery life is not much better. The Vita (from what I have read) seems to have the best battery life coming in at almost 4hrs.

The 3DS XL has the better battery life between at off them.

Really, you shouldn't compare the battery life of a handheld to that of a controller. Even if you were to say it's a cross between a handheld and a standard controller, there's NO reason why it should have shorter life than something that also has processors and such onboard.

I could see it not lasting long as a DualShock or something, since it's also powering a screen. But to have less battery life than the 3DS or Vita is pathetic.

And you can say, "Well, it's got a long cable, so it's not so bad," but that's wrong.

Oh no. The battery life of a controller that I can play my games on is shorter than a normal one. Oh whatever will I do. It's not like I can plug it into an outlet as I play. /sarcasm

Honestly, it's not even a portable device.

I have to agree with the article. Although the battery life is a little on the short side it's not really that big of a deal... Just plug it in, the AC lead that comes with it is enormous. Typically I only disconnect mine if the gamepad is getting passed around a lot in games such as Nintendoland.

If it ever becomes an issue I'll look into one of those Nyko battery packs but I can honestly say that at the minute I'm not even considering it.

First world problems eh?

I think it's better to leave games like AC: Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash forgotten on the Wii U. Best case, they are mediocre games; worse case, they are very bad. It was a dark time for the Wii U, and the first only exists to sell Amiibo cards, whereas the second was put together in a couple of months with a shoestring budget, and it shows.

The rest of the list does have some really cool games, though. I would love to see a remake of Star Fox Zero with decent controls, and Xenoblade X doesn't require that much modification to work.

How would XCX work without dual screens functionality?

Cacabunga2d ago

Same as Paper Mario color splash. One of the best wiiu games and getting even better with dual screen. Same reason why i prefer Splatoon 1

This article leaves out Nintendo's most controversial game to date devils Third.
I personally found the cover system really fun in that one compared to at the time most fps games completely lacking one.

Stevonidas2d ago

Devil's Third is HIGHLY underrated.

They should remake Starfox to the switch 2. Very beautiful game during gamecube days.

Kirby is always ignored or forgotten by people, so good to see it mentioned here.
Play Kirby Canvas Curse on DS, and then play Rainbow Curse on Wii U, they're really fun and unique 'platformers' without any actual jumping.
