Does Max Payne 3 deliver the right kind of Payne or is it just a scratch?

good score, i cant wait for this one.
From what I've seen, the single player could be one of the best this generation. Highly anticipating this game.
i really cant wait for the single player, and i also cannot wait to play a max payne on psn with other people, i hope the multiplayer is worth while.
It's a good review. My one complaint is their derogatory view on cut scenes that are used to hide loading times. Last time I checked, this was preferred and we know there's going to be loading scenes. I'd rather see a cut scene than a rotating loading graphic. Sadly, it seems this will turn into a game where multiplayer will be the after-release focus rather than any single player story add-ons. I don't do multiplayer, and I don't mind companies that want to give people more multiplayer options post-release, but it gets kind of tiring seeing multiplayer being the only focus after release. Perhaps if this continues on, I wouldn't mind seeing games spliced into two, single player and multiplayer, and only having to pay for the part(s) of the game I actually plan to partake of considering how much focus is given to multiplayer when all I play is single player.
7.6? In what dimension?
the game world!!
Thankfully, these guys don't seem to actually give honest scores.
After watching the review, the score sounds fair.
I can see the faults they describe dragging the campaign down a bit, although everyone sounds enamored with the multiplayer. I'm more interesting in this for the solo game though, so I'm glad they didn't whitewash it and slap a 9 on the score just because the online is good.
"I'm glad they didn't whitewash it and slap a 9 on the score just because the online is good."
Especialy when the single player is what made the past MP games so good
It's weird. After watching this I'm actually more excited for the SP campaign. The story seems to be what dragged the game down for this reviewer, but thats extremely subjective. I accept this persons opinion, but I'm expecting to have a much better time with this than he did. And your right, virtually everyone seems to be enjoying the online multiplayer, so thats always a good sign.
*** The story seems to be what dragged the game down for this reviewer*** Nah, I think it was more than just that. He mentioned bullet time issues from it ending as you hit any surface to it not helping considering enemies have very accurate aim and deal a lot of damage in many situations that you're forced into. He also mentioned bullet soaking enemies becoming a problem as you advanced, using bullet time primarily to get off head shots rather than their intended cinematic appeal, cut scenes that force you into new fight battles without any of your previous cover and even a completely different weapon equipped. From the review, the reviewer had a lot of issues with the design of the gameplay overall, not just the story.
The problem is that there's only two gameplay mechanics in the whole game: 1. Shooting 2. Shooting in slow-mo
Looks the same as every other rockstar game.
Trust me people it's better than 7.6, I'd say 8.5.
So gametrailers gave it points off for being too hard, typical.
Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Vanquish, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and Devil May Cry 4 gt scores are 9.3, 9.6, 9.0, 9.0, 9.0 and 9.3 respectively, and they are considered by many some of the hardest and most unforgiving games of the generation, so I fail to see the logic of your comment.
Looks like GT's review is the lowest score. MP3 seems to be scoring an average of 9/10 or 4.5/5. Thats brilliant if you ask me.
I respect gametrailer reviews over IGN... pretty sure they give anything done by rockstar a minimum 9.0 by default. the game appears to be repetitive and lacking originality or identity. Ill be skipping this one.
Sooooo.... they gave this .1 more than Splinter Cell Essentials, a game I didn't even finish because it was unbearable to play. Sounds to me like somebodys rating scale is broken.
La noire all over again. Those cutscenes do look really annoying, and if they are the bulk of the game... I'm not even going to get into scores, it just doesn't look that exciting. Story seems kind of retarded compared to the older games in the series too. The clips of where max talks sound like duke nukem forever outtakes.
The cutscenes are the reason the game comes on two discs for the 360, there is only 8 to 10 hours of game play on the single player. I rented before I bought and Im glad I did. The game is cutscene shoot bad guys move to next area cut scene shoot bad guys.. Its not a bad game its just not great! IMO.
Why do you people think a 7.6 score is bad? That is 76% PERFECT, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. In fact, its a good score!
its because of the ridiculous standards they have set. Anything below 8 is pretty much a trash rating.
I agree with almost everything thay said.. This game is ok but its not great and its nice to see a honest review. Just because its Rockstar and Maxpayne does not make it a great game.
