InEnt writes: We have the idea behind Xbox 8 that it could be to do with the amount of cores their hardware could be packing, and while some gamers get excited over this possibility it seems a strange way to name a next-generation games console. The real reason Xbox 8 is a better name than Xbox 720 is purely to do with Windows Phone 8, Windows 8, and other Microsoft products. It makes a lot of sense if Microsoft does bring some form of the Windows 8 operating system to a new Xbox.
So I expect the same for whatever the next Xbox is called people will hate the name at first and give their opinions on what it should be called instead but after a while people will get use to it and love it.
@ hellsvacancy
eh,ORBIS sound like character in ACIT clank father??? im with you i rather refer to it as ps4............
No, as far as I can tell from all the people I know who own a Wii, they still hate the name and think it's stupid. I don't think I've ever actually heard anyone say they like the name.
"How is it that anything on this site not about Playstation always ends up being about Playstation? Why are Playstation fanboys aloud to troll so proudly and get rewarded for it?"
The guy who brought up Orbis here did it to say that Xbox 8 sounds better, and everyone who mentioned anything PS-related after that basically said the same thing.
Not exactly a prime opportunity to start rambling about trolling.
Yeah, a real PS fanboy there. Idiot.
It's a stupid name simply for the fact that the next gen games will outlive the MS OS. When windows 9 is released, it wouldn't make sense to have the name be Xbox 8. I think at this point right now the consensus would be to name it Xbox infinity and have the 8 turned sideways. But do not name it as an OS, that's just stupid.
Keep it simple stupid.

I don't think they're too worried about the number 4. It's pretty prominent here:

And here's Sony XBA-4 earbuds:

GENUIS!
You're right that they don't have a choice with 4GB, but my point was on how prominent the 4 is in that packaging. Instead of just saying it's a 4GB card; it's screaming 4.
Also, they could have named those earbuds any name. 4 is just the amount of drivers in it, but it could be named the Sony Tatertots earbuds with four drivers in the specs. There's no requirement there.
IV would still be read as 4, so your point on that makes no difference.. and you didn't read my first link.
Supposedly:
"The Japanese don't like the number 4 and 9 because of their pronunciation. Four is pronounced "shi" which is the same pronunciation as death. Nine is pronounced "ku" which has the same pronunciation as agony or torture."
But they already made a PS9 commercial, so I doubt they'll be ridiculous enough to not name the next console the PS4:

If it even plays DVDs
∞ is rather small but it's the infinity symbol which kind of looks like a vertical 8.
I have faild you life -_-
What happened to the days NES and SNES. Come on.. I know we want a Super Xbox and Super Playstation.
the reason xbox 8 is a good name is because that's about the maximum exclusives its gonna have.
i like playstation because they seem to focus more of games the adding lots of apps like a certain system...
i like nintendo because they use imagination with comin up with new names also they have zelda, mario, and metroid
They should come out with the Zune 8 tablet as a controller for the Xbox8. Give it functions like the WiiU pad controller but make it fully portable and make it a full pad like an Ipad or Galaxy pad. It would be buoyed by its compatiblity with the Xbox8 and fully compete against Vitas, 3ds, and the Ipad. Just a thought.
couldn't care less about the name, as long as its a brilliant console
Microsoft and Sony have flatly denied any new consoles this year, which means we wont be seeing anything from them.
With so many top games getting pushed into next year, I'm not even sure we'll see them next year either.
Were going to see PS3 and Vita games at E3 from Sony, and we are going to see Kinect and entertainment from Microsoft, maybe...MAYBE a surprise game or two.
Just kind of doubt this one.
Its a strategy that everyone will copy eventually.
As so many others have written I also like Xbox∞.
