Why Xbox 8 is a good name

It sounds fine seriously has their ever been a new console who people first heard it's name and actually liked it besides the playstation. The wii came out and everyone hated the name and hated now it's people like it. The wii U people were saying how stupid it was now people like it. When Kinect was announced people hated it and now people like it.

So I expect the same for whatever the next Xbox is called people will hate the name at first and give their opinions on what it should be called instead but after a while people will get use to it and love it.

The reason I think they're calling it Xbox 8 is because the next generation of home consoles will be the 8th generation. And I guess it all ties in with maybe WP 8, and Windows 8. Tho of course this is just all speculation. Xbox 8 may also just be another code name MS is using.

It's a stupid name simply for the fact that the next gen games will outlive the MS OS. When windows 9 is released, it wouldn't make sense to have the name be Xbox 8. I think at this point right now the consensus would be to name it Xbox infinity and have the 8 turned sideways. But do not name it as an OS, that's just stupid.

@EeJLP-: The products you mentioned are different, as they have no choice but to have the number 4 as it denotes a part of the functionality of the product. PS4 wouldn't be like that. It's just a name, a name that can be changed if they feel it's unlucky. However, they should take a hint from Squaresoft and go with the roman numeral IV. Squaresoft didn't seem to think that IV was bad luck when they made Final Fantasy IV. PSIV doesn't look too good though. But it's amazing what the right font and placement can do.

You're right that they don't have a choice with 4GB, but my point was on how prominent the 4 is in that packaging. Instead of just saying it's a 4GB card; it's screaming 4.

Also, they could have named those earbuds any name. 4 is just the amount of drivers in it, but it could be named the Sony Tatertots earbuds with four drivers in the specs. There's no requirement there.

IV would still be read as 4, so your point on that makes no difference.. and you didn't read my first link.

Xbox 8 just sounds like a weak attempt to de-rail the playstations naming convention.. Microsoft need to grow some balls and go for something different - Nintendo did it with the Wii.. sounded silly to start with and then became a household (ish) name.

As far as branding goes Xbox 8 is a really good name. Especially if all of the products they are releasing with 8 in the title work together really well. I wonder what going to happen to Zune.

They should come out with the Zune 8 tablet as a controller for the Xbox8. Give it functions like the WiiU pad controller but make it fully portable and make it a full pad like an Ipad or Galaxy pad. It would be buoyed by its compatiblity with the Xbox8 and fully compete against Vitas, 3ds, and the Ipad. Just a thought.

The thing is that Microsoft and Sony both have a ton of share holders, this isn't something small like a video game, new system are millions and sometimes billions of dollars. These companies aren't going to play coy with us and then screw over the stock people and all of that.

Microsoft and Sony have flatly denied any new consoles this year, which means we wont be seeing anything from them.

With so many top games getting pushed into next year, I'm not even sure we'll see them next year either.

Were going to see PS3 and Vita games at E3 from Sony, and we are going to see Kinect and entertainment from Microsoft, maybe...MAYBE a surprise game or two.

For the average customer that will be buying the new Xbox, the name "Xbox 8" is absolutley stupid, I hope its a sort of codename for the console in the works.. imagine saying that too your mates; "Hey guys, C'mon over and play my Xbox 8!" .. Blehh, Xbox 720 sounds much better :P

Xbox 8 is a bad name. One thing is Microsoft. haven't been in the gaming console industry as long as SONY or Nintendo. Nintendo probably have 8 consoles. SONY only 3. 8 Is probably a code name of their processor or hardware that's inside of the unit

I don't have high hopes for xbox 8; Microsoft came out swinging with the release of the 360, but in recent years they have been mediocre, opting for the casual market, instead of their core fans. Maybe the lack of support means they are heavily invested in launch titles for the xbox 8, but if their actions as of late are any indication, they will still be riding that casual crap market for as long as they can, and push for a media focus, instead of what the machine's main focus should be, games. Their success has made them lazy and arrogant, relying on third party support instead of their internal studios, and that doesn't bode well for me. But if their is one area that I would have to applaud Microsoft, it would be their Arcade section, it continually offers great downloadable titles that have usually bested the competitions downloadable games.
