Back in the distant 2001, a Finnish company Remedy Entertainment (you kids may know them as the developers of Alan Wake) developed a game called Max Payne. It was a very noir tale of a man who had everything taken away from him and was later handed the chance to pay everyone back for his grief. With lots and lots of bullets. The tale was told mostly through the voice of Max and shown to us through grungy comic strips to compensate for technical limitations of the past. It as dark, gritty and exciting, one of gaming’s anti-heroes. Max Payne was one of the very first action games to legitimately invest into story telling.
