Recent data that showed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 sales are markedly slower than Black Ops at equivalent times in their respective life cycles doesn't tell the whole story, according to the game's executive producer.

Been hearing this a lot lately....not sure what's up with people constantly trying to justify a game's sales that already made $1 billion dollars. Geez.

I don't like cod at all and I was getting really confused with analyst saying cod's numbers were down, when they clearly wernt lol

Even if they were down, I'm sure Black Ops 2 will make it go back up. The only thing that would prevent that is if people are not accepting to future warfare, but I doubt it.

I hated MW3, its the only COD in recent times that I actually sold.

"Sales aren't less, they're more, but they're just front-loaded. People are getting more and more excited about the launch and more aware of when it comes out. Pre-orders are crazy, through the roof. Every time we come out with a game it breaks the record of the previous game."
He's not wrong - Modern Warfare 3 moved a staggering 6.5 million copies on launch day in the UK and US alone.
"Sales aren't dwindling at all, they're just appearing front-loaded towards the launch, rather than spread out as they were in the past," he added. "They aren't down, they're just different."

... which game has sold more at the some point in its shelf life? MW3, or Black Ops?

You have to compare it the same way you have to compare the PS3/360: not by overall sales, but by how quickly each sold at different points during comparable periods of time on the market.

So launch saw more sales of MW3. What about after a month? What about 3 months? 6 months? After 6 months, which of the two had more copies sold?

I understand that you love CoD, but face facts, Grave.

At the same point in the games life cycle, MW3 still outpaces Black Ops. The recent data that caused a stir was based on that single month. If MW3 sells more at launch then there is a good chance its always going to be ahead when compared with 3 month, 6 month, 1 year numbers. Depending on the source MW3 is close to or has already passed Black Ops in lifetime sales.

The haters look to find every reason to say COD is failing. They could could have their sales numbers cut in half and still be more successful than almost every game out there. Fans don't sweat it, your game is not going away. Haters, relax and get used to it.

That's like saying that ice cream did not melt, it became liquid.
