Once in a while, we all want a good scare. For most, this scare comes from film. For others, however, we get our horror fix from the medium of gaming. Why? Simple- the act of controlling a character wedged within an uncontrollable environment creates an intimate atmosphere that is often unrivaled.
With that said, it seems clear that there are several aspects within the horror genre which work to spark emotion – all of which can either be done very well, or simply fail when it comes to evoking feeling for the audience. So how does visual fiction, specifically games, create an emotional reaction within the audience; and what is it that film can learn from gaming?
