Tecmo Koei is killing it in the market right now

Digitally Downloaded writes: "Tecmo Koei is going good in the market. Even given the critical panning that Ninja Gaiden 3 suffered (not by us, mind you), the publisher sold 630,000 copies of the game, and profit for the company was up 69 per cent across the board."

Has there been some kind of meeting when the word "shipped" now means "sold"? If so please tell me now. They shipped 630k copies not sold there's a BIG difference.

Stores buy product in bulk. Just because the product doesn't sell in the store, doesn't mean the intial creators of the product don't get money. Usually it works like this;

Publishers will sell a game in bulk to gamestop walmart or whatever. So the publisher sells lets say each game for $40 times whatever amount of copies they give. to whichever company, the company pays that in full, then sells the stock for a higher price to make a profit. I.e. the devs make money regardless if the game sells or not, so shipped numbers are more important to them. If a game has high demand then more copies are ordered and the cycle continues.

Just about perfectly explained.

That's why the whole used games damage the industry is complete BS, the games were already sold to shops and the publishers/devs got their money regardless :/

Not exactly. Thing is with used games. They prevent publishers from selling additional bulks. So it actually does cut into their costs. IMO though, it's their own fault for not thinking the whole business through beforehand.

This is the wrong way of thinking about it.

Just make sure not to compare used game market to used car market :)

I will say agree to disagree

Koei has been a favorite of mine since I fell in love with Dynasty Warriors 2. I've always enjoyed Tecmo games as well. Then they merged and still give me games I know and love! Koei Tecmo, if you were a woman, I would marry you!
