Next-Gen Necessities: Theories on the PS4/Orbis

GotGame: Sony’s got an interesting history with console releases. They’ve been a dominant competitor in the home console market since the original Sony Playstation, and their habit of making slim re-releases has been rather popular as well (PSOne/slim PS2/slim PS3). (Next-Gen, Sony)

Ahhh, the PS1 controller... I got mine before the analog stick thing came around. Those sticks were kind of intimidating for me at first haha.

I like how the Playstation controller has been virtually the same through each generation.

Totally agree and was an initial turn-off for me. I've grown to dig it though.

That's what people who bash on the Dualshock controller against the Xbox controller.

Ergonomic design aside, the Dualshock design has just been around that much longer. So it's grown on people and they're very accustomed to it. The article does make a good point though, in saying that many PSOne gamers have grown up and their hands may not fit that design now as well as it did when they were younger.

I agree! I hope Sony keeps it relatively the same for the 4th generation PlayStation.

I'm hoping they make some changes for the better. They can keep the layout, I just want better triggers and more ergonomic handles.

Agreed, I have quite large hands and it would be better for me if the handles were a little bit longer and thicker. I use ORB Triggers and they're awesome. I know there are alternative controllers but every one I've tried has had some issues. Some of them have too big or small dead zones, others don't have pressure sensitive face buttons and they rest just feel like they're built cheaply.

I'd like concave thumb sticks.

Me too, I like that you don't have to get use to a different controller but i do think the Dualshock 4 should probably change the R2/L2 trigger but other than that, I'm use to the DS controllers so i don't think PS4 need's a new controller design. Wouldn't mind though but i like DS.

The next Playstation needs better OS software and a better Browser.
My computer has been down since FEB. (waiting on tax return), so I've been using my PS3 for web browsing to get by in the meantime.
I never noticed until now how bad the browser in the PS3 was. ( PS3's web browser is called NET FRONT, which is made by a Japanese company called ACCESS Co.)

Also, the MP3 player is like from something out of like 1999.
Sony desperately needs to not let Sony of Japan do the software design of the PS4.

This could be the first time Sony sticks with the same optical drive media format as the previous generation PS.

i agree and if they do its going to play a huge role in price, which will help it be low

Online features day one is a must for me.

They should redesign the controller but allow DS3 to be used too. Controllers are well expensive! Would be great if they carried over to next gen.

The playstation 4's architectural design will take heavy influences by playstation 3's architectural design without any doubt in my mind.
