Microsoft's response to the Xbox's strange wireless signal

By John Cox, NetworkWorld.com, 01/11/08

After 37 days, Microsoft finally issued a statement in response to the strong radio apparently generated by its Xbox 360 game console that was Morrisville State College's IT group. The 43-word statement read:

"Any number of scenarios could account for wireless LAN disruptions in a college dorm environment where several electronic devices operate in close proximity. Xbox 360 complies with all applicable FCC regulations and we have not received reports that would indicate such a problem."

I wonder if the Ps3 does that to, because whenever i turn on my ps3, my laptop can't find any signals and automatically disconnnects me from the internet.

My PS3 sits right next to my Linksys WRT54G router running Tomato and I have never had a problem with its wireless and bluetooth enabled.

Polluted3297d ago

@rice: Mine used to do the same thing, but it turns out it was just because of the crappy Linksys stock firmware. If your router supports it, try installing DD-WRT or Tomato like Ruibing is using and you should notice a huge improvement.

you said you had a WRT54G router running Tomato ...I have same router but when I turn media share on thru the ps3 I lose my connection to PSN and all. When I turn media share off PSN and everything works....What is this "Running Tomato" ...I want to media share but cant do media share and PSN at the same time...

I used to have a crappy cordless phone that prevented anything in my home from connecting to my wireless network. When my wife would answer the phone my laptop and 360 would get disconnected. This was before the PS3, so I don't know if that would have had the same problem.

You guys need to update your router's driver. My PS3 would cause my computer to diconnect from wireless setup everytime I enabled media sharing. This problem went away when I updated my router's driver to the latest one. Hope this helps.

I updated FW had to unhook everything..Finally got media share and internet connection to work at same time..thanks

is that when I plug my ethernet cable to my 360 and back to my computer, internet connection is lost in my computer. That makes me mad because i only have one router with one ethernet output.

jaja14343297d ago

I didn't even know they made one with only one output. Doing so would seem to defeat the purpose of the device.
*shrug*

Shadow Man3297d ago

input for line, usb output, and 1 ethernet "output". So yeah my router is really old but I have a new router with 4 ethernet outputs but I don't know how to installed T_T

jaja14343297d ago

I see. routers *can* be a real pain to install sometimes. But for whatever reason Vista(which is what I have) does all of the configuration for you including security. And by everything I mean I just did a reformat and after all the drivers where installed the router was already set up security and all ready to go. Just a thought. :)

for me installing wireless network on my laptop was a dam pain in the neck. it took me like 2 hours to friggin get all the hardware recognized. OH and yeah i had one of those routers with only one output, man was it annoying when i wanted to play ps2 online. But it was awsome it lasted like 6 years, and then the adaptor overheated.
