PSone Games We Desperately Want to Come to the PlayStation Store - PSLS

PSLS's Alex Osborn writes: "Sony is currently working on bringing classics from the PSone library to the Vita in the near future, and we just can’t wait! As such, we here at PlayStation LifeStyle decided to compile a list of all of the noteworthy titles that still haven’t been added to Sony’s library of PSone Classics.

So without further ado, let’s get right into it."

why do they still keep the library segregated to each region? There are games available in other territories that 'should' be made available to all.

Recently I picked up philosoma in disc form because it wasnt available in my region on the ps store. It is out in digital form in another region and sure i guess I could probably make an account for that region but honestly...I shouldnt have to.

That game was released locally when it first came out and yet in digital form it isnt available locally. Id say if they are to really push the digital distribution library then it should be a global library available to everyone everywhere.

NastyLeftHook01996d ago

i agree with that point. it really makes no sense to lock a game out from entering a region when you want to download it online.

i would assume it wouldn't be that hard to just put the downloaded game on the playstation store and be done with it, but apparently that is not the case.

really, your guess is as good as mine.

tokugawa1996d ago

ok slightly off topic, but i want to see crash team racing remade with on-line multiplayer!

one of the best karting games ever imo

blumatt1996d ago

Gex!!!! Enter the Gecko. Awesome PS1 Classic. Brings back memories.

Knushwood Butt1996d ago

@ darth

Yeah, I don't get it. I'm in Japan and am STILL waiting for Street Fighter Alpha and Silent Hill - neither are out here but are out in other regions.. In Japan the vast majority of the PS1 classic releases are stuff I swear nobody has ever heard of. The only decent on of late was Justice Gakuen (Capcom fighter).

SilentNegotiator1995d ago (Edited 1995d ago )

Legal reasons, almost for sure.

From link above:
"This usually comes down to either publishing rights or bugs that occur within the emulated PAL version that did not occur within the NTSC emulated version"

Obvious as it gets. How can people SERIOUSLY NOT understand this?

rustyspoon801995d ago

I think it's something to do with licensing. Games are sometimes published by different companies in different regions. I also think language plays a part.
But do agree. I hate it when a game come to PS+ US but not PS+ UK.

guitarded771995d ago

I want them to revamp the controls for the PS1 Classics so you can use the L stick instead of having to use the d-pad. I know it's probably difficult, if not near impossible due to the limited directional input range of the PS1, but trying to go back to a d-pad for directional controls is near impossible, and I've been gaming since the 2600.

PJF_Josh1990d ago

There are several reasons for this, the first being that each region is operated independently of the others. Sony America has their own schedule and planning based on what they feel works well in their region while Sony Europe does the same focusing on their own region.

Sony Japan obviously sees value in the PSOne Classics in their marketplace which is why a huge portion of their catalog is available on the Store.

There's also the question of licensing agreements. Just like Sony has separate divisions, publishers do as well. Agreements need to be made with the publisher for a particular game in that region. Complicating things a bit further, a game can be published by one company in the US and another company elsewhere.

Some publishers might not see the value in releasing the game on the PlayStation Store and won't sign any agreements to do so.

If you notice, many games on the US store were published by Sony and others (for the most part) tend to be from a handful of companies like Square Enix, Konami and Ubisoft.

It's actually much more complicated than just putting the games up on the store.

Blacktric1996d ago

Also Diablo. I think it would sell a good amount for a PS One Classic considering the release of Diablo III is very soon.

Larry L1996d ago

There are VERY few PS1 classics I think are worth actually spending money on. But there are a select few I have bought and would buy just to be able to have them on my PSP and my Vita when I buy one once PS1 games can be put on the device.

The ones I've bought have been every Final Fantasy, GEX, Mega Man 1, 2 and 3, RE1 Director's Cut and Star Wars Dark Forces.

Diablo would be a FANTASTIC addition and I'd buy it day 1. Having that on my PSP or preferably the more comfortable (in my hands) Vita, it would be about all I ever played on the unit.

The very few other PS1 games I would like on my PSP/Vita are
Final DOOM
Mortal Kombat Trilogy
Brave Fencer Musashi

and maybe the old Capcom cross-over fighter like Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men vs SF or any/all of those games would be nice.

dredgewalker1995d ago

I would like to add Silent Bomber, Castlevania SOTN, Parappa the Rapper, Bust a Groove, Front Mission 3, Xenogears, Suikoden, Vagrant Story, Tobal, Wipeout, FF Tactics, Lunar Silver Story, Grandia, Silent Hill ....I still know a lot of games I enjoyed on the PS1 but I can't seem to remember names of the games.

alexcosborn1996d ago

VR Missions is loads of fun.

Persistantthug1996d ago

Metal Gear Solid 1 has been in the PSN store for years.

Emilio_Estevez1996d ago

Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions was the last ps1 game mentioned in the article

dbjj120881996d ago

Yeah I'm dying to play PS1 games on my Vita.

doctorstrange1996d ago

Yeah, should have been their day one

dboyman1996d ago

I agree. Sony should have had an emulator for PS1 games day 1

Dante1121996d ago

@ dbjj

They're coming. Probably being announced at and released after E3.

dbjj120881996d ago

That would certainly be a nice announcement at the press conference.

ChiVoLok01996d ago

I'm dying to play both Driver games, the Die Hard trilogy, and Dino Crisis on any PS system.

Drithe1995d ago

I have been begging for this since day one. goo call!

crunchychocobo1996d ago

I hate that it's in the near future for the Vita. This should have been available Day 1.

alexcosborn1996d ago

Couldn't agree more. It's the perfect platform to play them on.

Drithe1995d ago

I bought the VIta just for rpgs, ps1 and up!

MiamiACR211996d ago

Are the Syphon Filter games on PSN? I had amazing times playing those games.

MiamiACR211996d ago

God... damn it. I'll buy the PS4 next round, and just hope that it's backwards compatible. I need me some Syphon Filter lovin'!

cpayne931996d ago

Good games, all came free with ps+.

Slapshot821996d ago

Please tell me you've not missed the two fantastic Syphon Filter games on PSP?!?

cpayne931996d ago

For me the six best games on the psp were the two mgs games, the two gow games, and the two syphon filter games. Honestly those two syphon filter games had better gameplay and story than most shooters on console, truly phenomenal games. If you were a syphon filter fan, it was practically worth getting a psp just for those games. But man...the ending to Logan's Shadows! It was a cliffhanger ending! That's why we need a syphon filter 4, so we can know what happens next, otherwise that would be the worst ending possible for such a great series. Drives me insane just thinking about it.

MiamiACR211996d ago

I've only missed one, and that was Syphon Filter Logans Shadow. The other PSP one was excellent, I poured so many hours into that mutiplayer, so many good memories.

NarooN1996d ago

Yep, the original trilogy is on there. John Garvin hinted that they're finally working on a new SF for the Vita. I hope so... I'll buy a Vita just for that alone.
