Tip from personal experience, be a programmer or character modeler. Development companies are always looking for programmers and skilled modelers.

Do have to be able to code to work in game design?
I'm very artistic and good at drawing (not to kiss my own ass:P) but coding makes me want to shoot myself out of boredom and confusion!
