Original Deus Ex Coming To PlayStation 3, Probably As A PS2 Classic

If you’re waiting for the sequel to Deus Ex: Human Revolution pop on to Steam and download Deus Ex, the first game in the series. Oh, you want to play it on a console? Well, here’s some good news then! PlayStation 3 owners, at least in Europe, will be able to replay Eidos’ classic. (Deus Ex, PS3)

The Ps2 port wasn't exactly great, still it's a good opportunity for Human Revolution fans who missed out on the original.

The PC version was a lot better, but the PS2 version was a very good port (I own both)

The (already poor) graphics actually looked worse on Ps2 and the control scheme had to be greatly simplified to work on controllers meaning alot of time is spent in menus rather than the game, It's still one of the best videogames ever made and it sounds like you never played it before so I'm sure you will enjoy the Ps2 version just fine

All of the levels in the PS2 version were split into multiple segments with loading screens in between, unlike the PC version which had large seamless levels. The loading times were a bit long too. The segmented design and constant loading screens is definitely the biggest downside, and after playing the PC version, it's hard to go back. The levels are pretty much exactly the same, but having a big seamless area is much more immersive.

Controls were also a bit weird. Graphics were worse. There were also some framerate issues.

Keep in mind though that my first completion of it was on the PS2, and even then I thought it was one of the best games I've ever played.

I've heard from Deus Ex fans that the graphics are actually IMPROVED (in some ways) on the PS2 port, due to it coming out 2 years later, and the PS2 being newer hardware at the time. The fact that the levels are split up due to RAM constrictions is a big downside, however.

never got a chance to play the original Deus ex until it came out on PS2 back in the day. Poor port or not, it was awesome! and the reason I jumped into the entire series.
I actually wish they would do a remake of the original now that human revolution is out.

It was a very good port, they had to scale it back for the PS2 (Some areas are much smaller) but other than that it was still great :)

I'd love them to do a HD version, maybe even a remake with the DXHR engine :)

Is human revolution not a prequel to deus ex?
Capt-FuzzyPants  +   383d ago
No it is. I'm not sure how closely related they are as I haven't played the original but to my understanding HR is a prequel.

yeah, and that kind of leads to the funny Bioshock 2 issue....all of the augmentations are 10 times more impressive in the predecessors.

You can pick it up on Steam for $2 during one of their sales fyi.

and any premade computer or laptop should run it just fine

I first played it on ps2, but theres not really much reason to play that version these days.
SilentNegotiator  +   383d ago
My cheap-o 2010 Satellite runs it just fine. Not at TOP settings, but still.

One of the best games ever created. If I didn't already own the PC version (with mods :-) I would definitely get this.
TheModernKamikaze  +   383d ago
Should I get this? I don't really know about Deus Ex except people like it a lot.
