25 Characters That Could Be in a Microsoft Battle Royale

From Halo to Blink and Gears of War to Perfect Dark, Microsoft may not have a robust roster of exclusive characters but it has plenty to warranty an All-Stars Battle Royale of its own. Leviathyn.com's Stephen Daly lists 25 Microsoft icons that could be thrown into the arena.

They have mostly all the characters Rare have created, for support, and they can add user Avatars with the ability upgrade an individual's move set list.

Moncole4371d ago

They can also use characters from xbox indie games like the guy Deadlight and the character from Orcs Must Die or the Kid from Bastion.

But why? Games like this have to be built on memorable characters... MS just doesn't have the character set to make an appealing game. I'd rather not see a MS Battle Royale, than see some pathetic mash up of characters thrown together for a cash in. Don't get me wrong, MS does have some great characters like Marcus and Master Chief, they just don't have the depth of great characters that Nintendo and Sony have... maybe by the end of next generation they will. XBOX has only been around for two console generations.

slaton244371d ago

xbox users with all these articles seemed to be mad and jealous they dont have a ssb clone.........yet

KeiserSosay47884371d ago

Now that's not really necessary, is it?

matt19914371d ago

Oh yea ... because its the xbox user writing all these articles.

h311rais3r4371d ago

And you seem to be selfish and a person who thinks only you should have everything. What's wrong with hoping for something?

Pixel_Enemy4371d ago

I didn't know xbox had 25 exclusive games.

Checks the list, oh... Many of them are from multiplats and they had to pull several characters from the same games. Also Avatars? lol

koh4371d ago

Pixel... is that not the case for Sony's game? Or even SSB? Oh right, I forgot that Snake was created by Nintendo...

Arnon4371d ago (Edited 4371d ago )

Well, now you know.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

Characters that could make a game:

Alan Wake (Alan Wake)
Banjo-Kazooie (Banjo-Kazooie 1/2/N&B)
Kaim Argonar (Lost Odyssey)
Seth Balmore (Lost Odyssey)
Shu (Blue Dragon)
Marumaro (Blue Dragon)
Kameo (Kameo: Elements of Power)
Joanna Dark (Perfect Dark)
Master Chief (Halo)
The Arbiter (Halo)
Theresa (Fable/2/3)
Jack of Blades (Fable)
Maze (Fable)
Marcus Fenix (Gears of War 1/2/3)
Anya Stroud (Gears of War 3)
Hudson Horstachio (Viva Pinata)
Jason Flemming (Shadow Complex)
'Splosion Man ('Splosion Man)
Galen (Ninety Nine Nights 2)
Zephie (MagnaCarta 2)

That's 20 characters off the top of my head. Remember, these fighting games are also for advertisement for other games, as well.

Raoh4371d ago

@Arnon

Just as it was mentioned in other threads and in neogaf, there are a lot of exclusive games on the 360 but not exclusive ip's or characters.

Mass Effect 1 is the only console exclusive, the rest are on ps3, so any mass effect character can be on ps3.

Blue Dragon was a 360 console exclusive but since the series has moved to nintendo handhelds.

Bioshock moved to multiplatform.

Fear Files and Ace Combat? LMFAO those are just one out of many in the series that is multiplatform.

Its not much on the 360 list.

Current run you have fable, gears, halo, crackdown. Outside of that your going early games which lets face it, no one cared about lost odyssey or blue dragon on teh 360 (I myself loved those two games, if ms wanted to keep me as a customer they should have spent their money to woo Mistwalker not Square Enix)

Joanna Dark maybe, not sure if there are any residual licence issues with the rare titles that originally started on nintendo.

And Yeah LOL at avatars.

My favorite so far is the AK47 with legs.

Hicken4371d ago

When you consider the 3rd party characters included in SSB, or likely to be included in PSASBR, most of them are characters that are synonymous with that company. And if they're not synonymous, then a large number of people recognize that those characters are affiliated most strongly with that particular system. Despite FF's Nintendo origins, for example, it's more heavily associated with Sony. Or No More Heroes comes to mind as a Nintendo franchise first.

In cases like that, is it not perfectly acceptable for a third party character to be included?

At the same time, though, it doesn't do much good to include characters that aren't very popular.

Arnon4371d ago (Edited 4371d ago )

It doesn't matter if people liked a game or not. I guarantee you a majority of people who played SSB didn't know about:

Pit
Ness
Roy
Marth
Ike
Ice Climbers
Lucas
Mr. Game & Watch
Olimar
R.O.B.
Wolf

but that didn't stop them from putting them in the game. And I can guarantee you the majority of audience who will buy PlayStation All Stars won't know a lot of the characters in that too. How about, instead of stating an opinion with things completely unrelated to my comment, you give me a good response. I gave you a list of characters for the 360 that would be just fine for an exclusive 360 fighting game.

Also, I don't see what's that funny about being able to create your own avatar, and have it fight against the biggest Microsoft names. That's pretty genius to be honest.

And I'm sure you're okay with Fat Princess being a playable character right? We all know the massive success that that game had.*

There are no variety in the types of characters. It's either swords or guns, mostly guns. This is just like when Sony had an exclusive character in Mortal Kombat and SFxT. There's going to be all this speculation and lists and it'll never happen.

BitbyDeath4371d ago

More importantly who would develop it?
The only studio i can think of would be Rare.

fermcr4371d ago (Edited 4371d ago )

I wasn't interested in the Wii's smash bros... i'm not interested in the PS3 smash bros... and i wouldn't be interested in a X360 or PC smash bros.

Honestly... i don't see why all the fuss with these smash bros games.

BitbyDeath4371d ago

It's a different genre, akin to fighting which needs improvements. (IMO)

Personally i'd rather the DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi style to take over but this is still way better than FPS number 9,456,640,562.

WeskerChildReborned4371d ago

Because some of us have memories of how fun it was back on GC and N64 because it was just a simple fun fight game.

koh4371d ago

If you haven't liked any of these games then it's pretty safe to say that they weren't designed with you in mind.

I mean, I don't like MMORPGs, but you don't see me asking why someone else would. Different strokes for different folks.

Gears Of War 3 And Judgement Servers Are Brimming With Life Once Again

Gears of War 3 and Judgement servers have returned to their "updated" condition, adding several features, such as increased XP and more.

I currently play Gears 3 often, especially after the 60 FPS Boost. Gears of War is my favorite gaming franchise, and the Locusts are the coolest faction in history. Gears Judgment will always be a disgrace for not having the Locust in VS multiplayer.

AuraAbjure302d ago (Edited 302d ago )

GoW 3 and Judgement were the last installments before the series went woke and soulless. I'm level 50 in GoW 3 and LOVE it's multiplayer to death. It's just so crispy.

Master Chief Became More Than A Machine In 343's Halo

In Halo 4, 5, and Infinite, Master Chief became a more nuanced, human character.

In spite of the Halo series’ struggles, 343 deserves praise for adding nuance and characterisation to the ever-beating heart of Halo - The Master Chief. Playing through Infinite, it's abundantly clear that the events of the current and previous trilogies have irrevocably changed the iconic hero. He’s no longer the ‘blank slate’ that was previously presented by Bungie. He’s a fatigued, damaged and fallible protagonist, and one who is meandering through currents of grief, while reveling in his newfound agency. Giving the Chief a compelling and meaningful voice was no small feat, and 343 should be proud of that victory.

This article completely misses part of the appeal of the original iteration of character in the original game trilogy. It was the Chief and Cortana vs an entire alien collective. The blank slate Bungie displayed in their games was genius, he was an mysterious hero a wide audience could identify with because he wasn't as clearly defined as most characters.

The books added a lot of lore and backstory but most Halo players just want a fun game with exposition that doesn't get in the way of gameplay, it's why the Cortana level in Halo 3 was derided.

Not every character has to be a damaged soyboy, a soldier has to suck it up and do his duty.

BandarHub400d ago

A lot of people give the 343 version of Master Chief a lot of slack.
But Fundamentally he is still the same character, he just has a couple more dialogues. He has not changed in terms of attitude.
"Not every character has to be a damaged soyboy, a soldier has to suck it up and do his duty."
And that's what he has done at the end of the day, he did his duty. Watch his partner die, and was ready to destroy the weapon in Halo infinite....he is still the same soilder that everyone remembers

Halo Infintes one was a nice balance between both.

slate91400d ago

Chief and the halo franchise became a joke under 343

Sciurus_vulgaris400d ago

The 343i Master Chief has is based on the books. However, in Halo 4-Infinite, the Master Chief overtime become. gradually becomes more willing to show some emotion.

Obscure_Observer400d ago

"However, in Halo 4-Infinite, the Master Chief overtime become. gradually becomes more willing to show some emotion."

Which is awesome! I love how Master Chief become more John and less soldier.
