Surprising news - 4Chan defends CD Projekt RED and The Witcher 2

DSOGaming writes: "Let’s face it, 4Chan is a place where most pirates are gathered. This is not to say that 4Chan is worthless or anything. Its fanbase is simply huge, therefore it’s only natural to have a lot of people who pirate games. In the past, we’ve seen in 4Chan users sharing cracks, information about illegal downloads, as well as one hell of leaks and trolling attempts. However, today we witnessed something that put a smile on our faces and proved that there are still users who can appreciate and acknowledge developers such as CD Projekt RED." (PC, The Witcher 2)

CPR deserves all of the support....come on not many other studios would release dlc with hours of gameplay/features all free of charge....

Skyrim sold more on pc than witcher 2. And it's a console port. The menu wasn't even made for pc gamers. CDP is awsome. No Drm, Free art book, Free DLC, Free Enhanced version, Free making of the witcher 2 dvd & it launched at $45! They are great indeed!

Despite it being a huge console port, I think it sold so well on the PC because The Elder Scrolls series are known for having one of the best modding communities in gaming, and that right there will sell any game on the PC.
john2  +   392d ago
What caboose32 said. Skyrim was saved by mods and the modding community. The modding community of Skyrim (and generally speaking of the Elder Scrolls series) is huge

If/when the Witcher gets up to game #5, you might see a similar popularity out.

Not to mention company size, marketing budget, and whatnot. They also offer different experiences and all that jazz.

The skyrim menu was made to look nice more than anything. It doesn't work any better with a gamepad, which you can use on PC as well. Its actually better when you can at least use some hot keys and mouse scroll through menus. I actually find skyrim to be more of a PC game than the witcher 2 outside graphics. Mod support, better mouse and keyboard controls, no qte, can change graphical settings in game, runs better on low end hardware.

Sorry double post. Ps I love witcher 2, but I find insecure PC fans funny.

what you didn't realize Gamingperson was that TES has always had a huge pc following and Bethesda has always always delivered on mod support. If you bought Skyrim on pc you knew not to worry about the UI or bugs because the modding community would change and fix it. When given the features pc gamers care about no eff's are given how the UI looks. That's why Skyrim was successful.

Another thinkg you are overlooking is that 1 million sold over GoG and Steam means they are taking home A LOT more than selling 3 million at retail on 360 or ps3. In other words even if the 360 version sells 2 millions, the PC version was more profitable for them. The bottom line will always trump how much each platform sold.

I wish there were more cdprojekts. I love the witcher 2 alot and i can tell that they do to. It's like a fans rpg. It may be more linear but i think they did what bioware tried to do with DA2; a tight well woven, nicely driven story with freedom in choices and combat and a difficulty that allows for actual satisfaction without being unforgiving. Here's to hoping that the witcher 3 or more content is in the works.

It's not surprising. 4Chan always takes the moral high ground where it really matters.
And the Witcher 2 really matters.
Redempteur  +   392d ago
Anyone who knows 4chan , is aware that the place support open projects and value games that are highly crafted ..

This title is ridiculous... Mods for games that are popular and various stuff indies is supported legaly by the huge majority of 4chan users as long as your product is good.

Witcher being a game that delivered on all front is supported by 4chan and there is more games that are in the same situation..
Regent_of_the_Mask  +   392d ago
Implying that they actually care and just aren't trolling as usual.
Gohadouken  +   392d ago
i'm guessing you're dissapointed they aint like you .
Baka-akaB  +   392d ago
Except it's no surprise actually , they backed the hell out of Witcher 1 too .

And they are actually quite supportive of a lots of indie/doujins and visual novel games

"supportive of a lots of indie/doujins and visual novel games"
They're very very Otaku, you forget Hentai/Smut(both manga and video)
I really have to buy TW2.
Gohadouken  +   392d ago
The title is a bit ridiculous , 4chan supports plenty more games than any known community forum , short of neogaf .

They basically gave birth to a successful visual novel game : Kawata Shoujo

not only do i agree with 4chan on this stance, but i'm not a fan of pirating games in general. no matter how much you hate a developer's or publisher's practices, no matter the reason, you're still stealing something that took millions and millions of dollars, as well as a bunch of time and effort, to make.

for example, i'd love to play Battlefield 3, it's itching at me to play it, but i'm not dealing with Origin, period. and on top of that, i can't stand EA. but that doesn't mean that DICE deserves to have something they worked hard on get torrented. i'll either have to miss out on the game, or buy it and DL the hack that lets you play it without Origin.

with that being said, i still often buy games used, which also keeps money out of the pockets of developers and publishers, so i'm not entirely innocent.
bishop-br  +   392d ago
Not really. If you often buy used games, chances are you may buy a DLC here and there, hence you are putting this money on their pockets. Not to mention that used sales is completelly legal, different from piracy.

Now, if people not holding to their games and deciding to sell it used is hurting the business, that's up to developers and publishers to make games that people will want to hold on to.

I know I have sold a fair share of my old games, but I also hold onto many titles that I'll never sell. These games usually come from devs and publishers that got my sympathy over time, hence I tend to keep an eye at what are they doing and end up buying more of their games. Getting more money is all down to making quality games, really.

EDIT: Grammar nightmare

... one day, people will get it through their heads that there's a massive difference between paying the owner of something for the product they bought, and flat-out stealing said product. One day...

If only my witcher 2 would work (pc) since patch it won't launch. Anyone know why?
caboose32  +   392d ago
Try asking in the forums for The Witcher website. I'm sure they will be more then happy to help you.
Genecalypse  +   392d ago
From my experience most people buy games on Steam, you see far more topics on that than "people sharing illegal downloads"
Megaton  +   392d ago
Not surprising at all if you know anything about 4chan.
Baka-akaB  +   392d ago
Yeah , people were discussing the witcher's on 4chan quite early on , when it was still basically going to be a neverwinter nights based campaign .

I remember back when it was being compared to dragon age 2. There was quite the strong following for the witcher 2 back then too.
Bakkies  +   392d ago
4chan, where sub-humans lurk and then download kiddy porn and gore porn. To be honest this guy would've been trolled, regardless of how he acquired the game, because this is the nature of the internet's toilet, namely 4chan.
McSpermie  +   392d ago
This is actually what you believe.
Redempteur  +   392d ago
@bakkies

YOU MAD ?

I bet you actually got a painfull humiliation and/or ban because you didn't understand how 4chan works

Poor kid, 4chan will be kinder with you next time.
