Minecraft – Beginning The Experience From The Ground Up

Ben Rowland wrote: I must admit, the sudden and feverish popularity of Minecraft, the sandbox building game from Mojang, took me completely by surprise. All I knew about the game was that it takes place in a world made out of blocks and you build things using resources gleaned from the land, and then defend your creations against pixelated nasties. How could a game that looks this simple have captured the hearts of so many gamers? I need to look into this, and the upcoming release of the game on the Xbox Live Arcade will be my first chance at doing so. (Minecraft, Xbox 360)

I'm very excited to give this a try finally. Thanks for the tips!

My room-mate plays Minecraft all the time. I don't see the appeal myself, but it seems to keep her happy!

I don't understand the appeal of Minecraft either, but... I do have friends who play it religiously.

I didn't understand it until I played it. Now. Hnnnnnnnnghhh sooo goooooood.

I am quite excited to play it, to be honest. It doesn't look like my kind of game, but with all this fanfare, it must be doing something right.

I wanted to buy this, but the increase to $20 for an arcade game is unacceptable, I will just wait for a deal of the week sale.

Most people don't see the appeal until they play it. Are the graphics outstanding? Obviously, no. But they nailed gameplay and when you play on a server, you can make wonderful creations for everyone to enjoy. The community is wonderful too. It's just an overall wonderful experience.

That's what I've heard. The sense of fun and community, plus the ability to be creative and build anything, is where the appeal lies for most people.

I would get it, but I don't feel like paying $20 again. I wish there would be a way for the PC owners to use our licenses on the 360 version.

But oh well. I can't play with the default textures anyways lol
