When it was first announced that The Walking Dead would be getting a video game version, you wouldn't have been crazy to assume it would be some kind of survival horror shooter.
(PC, PS3, The Walking Dead - Episode 1, Xbox 360)
3.8/5
Quite a fair review. All of the PRO's I can agree with, and all of the CON's are really just a victim of the formula.
I do agree, however, that this is best described as an interactive movie, much like Heavy Rain.
It looks brilliant, it offers wonderfully brutal decisions that drive the outcome, and above all else, it feels completely relevant and cohesive to the Walking Dead universe thanks in no small part to Robert Kirkman.
SPOILERS BELOW I don't agree with the nitpicking entirely, I mean this example from the review : "If leaving via the back were so easy, you literally could have just gone around front and picked up that damn brick. "
The same reason they didn't leave out the front door during the mayhem either....the back door was safer because there wasn't 50 zombies walking around right there. I agree not being able to grab the brick was a little lame, but not that.
"There's also a whole puzzle about finding a weapon to kill zombies with, but at this point you had already passed several knives, canes, and even a shotgun that the game didn't allow you to pick up. It just breaks your sense of immersion at points. It strikes me that these puzzles could have easily been reworked to be more plausible."
You can say that about any game, and not alot go as far as this game anyways. Yeah I would have loved to use anything and everything in the environment, but at the end of the day your playing a game and they have to give you some sort of line to follow. Also a lot of them are explained too. The shotgun only had one bullet in it period for example, and he was being hunted so he probably forgot to pick it up and run with it.
I agree the game had its flaws though and did feel jumpy story wise because it never forced the many options onto you. Also at times it seemed to be pushing for a decision when the decision didn't exactly need to be made.

Future episodes are going to be insane though!
