Stop Buying Games At Launch

Splitkick: Publishers continually fail to provide any real value for purchasing their products at launch. Instead they have erected barriers and hide features behind one-time-use codes making it more difficult to play your new games. Combine that with the potential savings along with receiving all the content associated with a game and the early buying consumer gets raked over the coals. Excitement is being exploited instead of being fostered. (Industry)

Like a commenter to the article has already said: Should apply all things tech, given how early adapters are ALWAYS burned by faulty or "beta" products.

You can say that again. I myself will stop buying games on day 1 because I had enough. I pay more for less. For example, Street Fighter IV. $59.99 on day one...than Super Street Fighter IV comes along at $39.99 and later Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition at the same $39.99. Almost doubles the roster.

But there are the GOTY editions. Usually at a lower price with a lot more content. It's just not worth buying a game day1 anymore. You get nothing.....in fact, you get less for more money.

Happy that Capcom decided to screw people over again by splitting maps across different retailers with RE6. Made my decision to wait for the Gold Edition that much easier.

Heck, if only there was a way to stop people from buying games at launch.

"Stop Buying Games At Launch"

AMEN. Will be getting AC GOTY edition when it comes out...waiting pays off =)

I'll be getting AC3 and GTA5 Day 1, but I paid those off with store credit from selling my Dreamcast, Super Ninty, Sega Genesis etc.

RIP dream cast :(

#1 reason I held out on Uncharted 3, i knew there would be a GOTY edition
SuperLupe  +   420d ago
I'm 22 years old and the only game I've ever bought at launch was RE4.

Ok stop buying games at launch, developer makes no money, closes up shop. Brilliant....
Captain Qwark 9  +   420d ago
agreed. ill buy games at launch and support the devs i love. if they come ouot with a new versions 6 months to a year later then i will buy that too if there is enough content.

plus with dlc 9/10 you can still get all the extras

i do agree with him though, early adopters like you and me are faithful to the companies and should be given some type of reward for not waiting to pick it up discounted

Im with you until the last part. Reward? That just doesn't compute...you paid for a product, you got it. That's it. This whole entitlement mentality really irks me to no end.
Captain Qwark 9  +   420d ago
not necessarily a reward but think about this for a moment, you have a customer who always buys your new product, never fails. tells his buddies to get your product, praises them, is first in line to pick it up.

now you have another customer that buys your products here and there and usually waits for a price cut before he buys. then thinks its good but thats it doesnt really share it with anyone.

now which customer would you prefer? clearly the faithful one. so why not give them a little something extra for their loyalty? im not saying devs have to by any means but if i owned a company i would treat all my customers great but those extra faithful ones, i may treat them a little nicer

Maybe if dev's didn't screw over day1 buyers and gave them something "special" than yeah I'd say you are right. But as it stands right now....early adopters get less for more money and whoever waits a few months to a year get's the FULL game at a lower price.

Why is it ok for developers to screw us over like that???

I like a ton of developers but if they keep pulling stunts like this than I'll just wait on every game until they release the full content.

Street Fighter X Tekken has characters on the disc LOCKED which you can unlock later when you pay more or wait for a next edition that will have them unlocked with even more characters and content at a lower price. Why is that ok?

Too bad, getting Dragon's Dogma on launch, that game is the shit.
typikal82  +   420d ago
I wish they would have taken all the effort they put into DD and just did a Monster Hunter on PS3 instead. Could've been a great multiplayer experience.
Half-Mafia  +   420d ago
The last new release I bought was BF3 and before that was Red Dead. The next new release I'll get is GTA5. But all the other games I by when they are under £15.

I bought Bulletstorm off Steam for £3.75 last month.
MrBeatdown  +   420d ago
So, instead of just crying about day 1 DLC or on-disc DLC, now we have to cry about DLC that comes out several months after the game's release and is offered in a GOTY edition of a game that already had a ton of content to begin with?

People will complain about anthing. Arkham City was a fantastic game with tons of content and gameplay. It was worth the $60. What next? We going to cry because people who buy the Skyrim GOTY edition a year from now get a better deal than us?
