Risen 2: Dark Waters Review | DigitalNoob

Night writes:

"I want to start by saying I REALLY wanted to like this game. I tried for hours upon hours to get into it and have fun, but I just couldn’t. It picks up where Risen left off, the nameless hero drunk while Patty washes up on shore, and the battle against the Titans continues. It’s shallow, repetitive, and feels like it is unfinished.

To sum up my thoughts on the game into one sentence: The game is difficult for all the wrong reasons." (PC, Risen 2: Dark Waters) 3/10

the difficulty has cropped up again. if you want your hand holding then go play skyrim.

it reminds me of demons souls. its not the actual combat thats hard its just the unfairness of the enemy. why shouldn't it be unfair. your a human meat sack going up against hardened creatures.

The difficult wasn't the issue. I played the preview build on the hardest difficulty. For the full game, I did it on easy to get through the story, but it was the mechanics themselves that made it unplayable.

thanks for the reply night. i can't judge too much on your score as i am yet to play BUT 3 out of 10 is pretty shody for a game that always gets its difficulty mentioned.

people slayed the vanilla witcher 2 (before difficulty downgrade update) for its difficulty saying the mechanics didn't work and i thought the same up until i used parry, roll and potions i found it to be amazing.

each to there own i suppose though.

I thought maybe it was just me having an issue with it too. I spend I don't know how many hours trying to work around the mechanics. I asked a friend of mine and he was having the same issues as I was with it. There was way too much running around with no direction, and the game mechanics were the most frustrating thing for me. I'll be putting a video up on the DN site this week showing all the issues so you can see exactly what I'm talking about.

"I asked a friend of mine and he was having the same issues as I was with it"

your friend maybe as bad at hardcore RPG's as you though.

your the reviewer and its your choice so i will not bash. when i have completed the game i will give you my opinion. i think your issue is not accepting the fact that the game is hard because of realism not bad mechanics.

Will wait for PC version.

If it's like Risen and the ole' Gothic games then that's great.

PC Version comes out soon. I was playing the PC version with a 360 controller. The other versions (360 and PS3) will have an extra episode in them of the Air Temple. The only statement they've put out about that is that they are leaving the PC version as-is, so they may or may not release that episode as DLC later on.
